Looking at going to Barbados for a chill out week in October. I know nothing about the place, so any recommendations for an all-inclusive adult hotel on the west coast?

Any other info and advice appreciated.

Cheers!.

OP, My wife and I spent 2 fantastic weeks in Barbados last month. We've been back 2 weeks and I'm itching to get back there!

We stayed at Mango Bay, all inclusive, on the West Coast. It was excellent, though for some, the fact that it only had 1 restaurant would put them off. It was great though, lots of choice, excellent service from all staff and a lovely place to while away a fortnight.

Next time I will try Crystal Cove, or The House. Colleagues have been there and have given excellent reviews. I think you would be fine at any West Coast location- get it booked!

We had dinner out for a few evenings whether at a local Bajan type place, or at The Cliff, Daphne's, Tides, etc. All of those are worth a look.

IMHO, and slightly off topic, The Cliff does Michelan-type food with excellent, though impersonal service. For my money, Tides is better. We went 3 times it was so good. Food is Bajan but cooked and presented beautifully. Not to the same standard as The Cliff, but the 'feel' of the place is nicer and the service is warm and typically Bajan. We ate late there one evening and we were the last guests- they were politely waiting for us to leave so they could close up. We ended up going for a drink at a local rum shack with 4 of the staff; had a lovely time. What a place.

Just had 2 weeks in Barbados this summer with the family.
First time for me and can't wait to go back!
stayed here http://www.colonyclubhotel.com/

As for the food, The best meal I had was in the Coral reef club hotel.

I'd agree with that, Tides is one of my favorites

I can heartily recommend the Sugar Cane Hotel and Spa - all inclusive.

Call them direct and ask to speak to Roddy.

Make sure you do the Cool Runnings Cruise, and don't go to Oystins

Not all inclusive but you can usually get a good deal in the Royal Villas at Royal Westmorland, 2 weeks including golf for about £1500 each based on 4 sharing.

Was there in June, stayed at The Crane, not all inclusive nor on the west coast but nice all the same.

Hire a car; it's really easy to get round the island in a day and they drive on the left. Unfortunately, their roads budget doesn't seem to extend to exit signs on roundabouts, so you need to pay attention on the approach if, like me, your wife can't read a map for toffee.

Oistins - not st, but not the blow-your-mind experience that you'll be told it is. Worth a visit in my opinion though.

Sorry, I'm on a roll here-

We went to Sandy Lane for dinner and on another occasion we had afternoon tea. Our taxi, when going for afternoon tea, mistakenly took us up to the country club rather than the hotel. I don't know why and to be honest I just went along with it not knowing which venue they served it at.

What a place! You have to see it.

The country club is absolutely magnificent and probably the best part of it is the view from the bar over the golf course. It is breathtaking and well worth a trip up there for. Apparently tiger woods was married on the green beside the club and I can see why. So much about Barbados causes me to gush (like this) and I'm generally not that sort of person. There was something very special about the place and I understand why people go back year after year.

Great restaurants - tides, cliff, lone star, etc. also some good options for cheaper meals on 1st & 2nd st in holetown.

I have to say though having been to many other countries that Barbados is a bit of a rip-off. Taxis are expensive, restaurants a little overpriced, and u can find a bit of a rough crowd out at night IMHO.

Better off going somewhere like Mauritius where the people & staff make more of an effort to serve you & make sure you enjoy your hol, plus in Barbados service can be v v slow, just the way the culture is there I guess!

Buffet in sandy lane amazing, monkey bar good for a drink...as expected not cheap but def worth a visit to experience.

I worked in barbados a few years ago for a month.

The Cliff - it was awesome. Great location, outstanding food and great wine. A truly memorable experience.

There was also a terrific sports bar in Rockley where we stayed called 'Bubbas' - wall to wall telly, NASCAR, and the food was great too.

You'll not regret it, Barbados is a a great destination . I went to Sandy Lane way back in 1988 before the major renovation. It was a fading star then but had a charm that was unique. I hired a mini moke and toured around to the Atlantic side stopping for lunch el fresco watching the breakers crashing against the rocky shore.
Cool breeze on the Caribbean side , romance in the air, oh la la what could be better !

http://www.cincinbarbados.com/ Sure this used to be called Zas Zas or something, maybe they changed the name after the owner shot the chef for knobbing his wife (or something like that). Anyway, great food and enjoyed it far more than Sandy Lane which I do not rate at all. Also try http://www.littlegoodharbourbarbados.com/restauran... The Fish Pot, awesome place.
