OP have you tried E30zone, e36coupe.com (they cover all 3ers,not just E36s) or Driftworks.com ? Ask about on there.
Being untaxed since 07 means it likely has unfortunately been scrapped or exported; however it may be sitting in someones back yard, it may be caged and M52'd tearing around a track. Never know, the above sites are good places to ask however.
