Following on from my recent post abot the cretin who decided to rearrange my ns rear, i have had a quote from my local panel shop. He has quaoted £400.00
Now The car is a 52 plate V70 and the damage is to the rear door and one hell of a dent on the ns rear 'wing'
he thinks if i took it via th ins they would quote for a new rear door skin and rar wing and the good old ins would look at that and weigh it up against the car value.

Now the questions
1) its reapairable

2) should i get acouple of quotes, say from an independent bodyshop, and mt local Volvo dealer

3) if they are in the region of 1K plus

3a) contact ins co

3b) if they go for thw write off what cat would it be

3c) could i buy it back from them

3d) would the payout exceed the buy back value?

I have a £300 excess so the difference between payout and buyback needs to be at least £700.00

how would it affect next years ind bearin in mind it would be a Cat 'something' ( ihave no knowldge of the differences)

Any ins bods out ther care to comment?

Did the other party admit to it?

Can you not contact their insurers and just say I got a quote in the region of 'x' etc and then try and get them to pay. I'd of thought a sensible quote and they'd be happy to move things along instead of potential hire cars and injury claims etc etc. Then your excess wouldn't come into it etc?

not an expert just what I've read on here.

The current trend is to write the car off as an uneconomical repair, give you a cheque for the car's current market value and then deduct the salvage value and hand you the damaged car back to either dispose of yourself or if you want, keep.

A 52 plate V70, it's going to be valued at maybe £1200 (ish) and so if the quotes are near market value but under it'll be Cat D, if they are over it'll be Cat C.

Salvage with be somewhere from 20 to 30% of book.
