For £18, just buy it. A round of drinks costs more.

Could I use Chromecast to stream sky sports from a computer in a friend's house to his TV? I have one of those Sky Go accounts. He doesn't have Sky. Im hoping it would save us from watching the football on his computer screen.

Thanks.

Now you can cast the whole screen, it might be possible to cast Sky Sports. I'll try it tonight.

Perhaps try using the same method as casting XBMC here - http://www.thestreamingadvisor.com/2014/06/14/use-...

Hoping it'll come in handy for the holiday coming up. Take the laptop with films on it and crack on.

I wouldnt be too sure.

You cant make an ad-hoc connection and most hotel wifi routers wont let a chromecast on the network.

Are you taking your own mobile hotspot?
It's a holiday cottage, with wifi. So I imagine just as basic router there.

On ipad, you can screen mirror but if its Sky or some other thing like that they know and they chop the video feed.

Yep, you get a pop up window that says "this does not support Miracast" if you try to cast screen Sky Go, likely to get the same with others.

I having an issue with it constantly stopping to buffer crap.

NAS to iPad using Plex works fine.

iPad to chromecast is constantly buffering...

How do I fix that?

Hmm, could it be that the chromecast is getting poor wifi? If it's positioned wrong, the tv can effectively work as a "shield" for the wifi signal.
If you can, maybe try and move the 'cast further with an HDMI extension lead.
