Looking for a new car and one of my friends in the trade has offered me a 2009 Passat tdi for 1000 GBP, No idea as for specs, condition etc but he mentioned it was ex fleet and has just been de-fleeted. Full service history etc and apparently in reasonable condition.

The downside is its done 190k and well its a passat.

I immediately dismissed it but after a bit of thought i was thinking that it would do for a winter hack as 1000 GBP is effectively throw away money, I wouldn't be too bothered about damaging it during the winter (We get 5 months of snow here and driving standards are a joke) and come the Spring when the snow clears it should be easy enough to shift on as VAG parts here seem to be worth a premium and sell all day long (Poland)

I've emailed him to ask if the DMF and clutch have been changed, Apart from the usual belts etc is there anything else i should be asking him to check?

I won't be using it to commute as I've just opened an office in the building next to my apartment and the only reason we need a car is to go to the supermarket once a week and also so we can visit my OH's parents without enduring a 8 hour train ride.

Any thoughts on that era Passat in general?

Get it bought, £1000 quid for the car is cheap i'm sure when you come to sell it you can get double of your money back?

A neighbour is a car dealer he had one for sale at 4 years old that ha 240,000 yes 240,000 on the clock for around 3-4k.

Its cheap and pretty reliable.

Not sure where you are but I know of a 306 2.0HDi with fewer miles on for less money?

Sounds reasonable for the Passat though. Mileage isnt too important as long as its been looked after.

Too cheap for a 4 year old Passat even with those miles so it's probably broken, stolen, a write off, delete as appropriate.

2009 would be a 2.0TDI with a massive bill for injectors/dpf/dmf/clutch etc waiting to happen. Depends if your going to shed it but sounds far too cheap!

Go kick the tyres. If it we're me I'd have it away, double your money and buy what you actually want.

Is the 190000km or miles?

Same engine as Audi A4, and the only thing to note on high miles is flywheels

Never had any common major issues on the CR A4s

Even if it's utterly, utterly fked you'd easily get your money back. As long as you're sure it isn't stolen I'd buy it.

I'll buy it if you don't want it. Sounds like a deal. You could get a whole new engine in it if there was a major issue and still not be out of pocket.

£1000 is comically cheap for a 2009 Passat, it would be rude not to take it. Irrespective of the mileage you simply can't complain for that money!

Even if the bodywork isnt top notch and the interior a little worn thats still worth around £2.5- £3K retail. I sell cheapies and buy mainly trade ins from bigger dealers but would still pay £2K for that (if legit and with at least some history). Recently sold an 03 plate Polo Tdi 1.4 Sport for £1400 with 192K on the clock, came with F.S.H and ran extremely well so dont let the mileage put you off, just check it out well and all works as it should but personally wouldnt hesitate at that money!

I assume you're in Poland? It seems like silly money for a 2009 Passat, especially given the fact that used car prices are generally much higher in Poland compared to the UK; it seems too good to be true, but if it all checks out it's a bargain.
