I've just bought this...

...1.3 Skoda Felicia Estate for £200 for Mum and Dad. smile

Seats five comfortably...

...cavernous boot...

...economical and bulletproof 1.3 Skoda engine with VW bits. Cheap to run, insure, lower tax bracket and hardly any modern stuff to go wrong.

Could this be the best car for £200?

Have a look for yourselves and feel free to comment and add to the thread. smile

Don't think you can go wrong for £200 for that!

Could drive it to death and still get £150+ back in scrap value

No VW bits that Im aware of. The Felicia is a Fvorit which VW engineers re-worked to make fit.

The only petrol Felicia with any proper VW bits (exc. the steering wheel etc) is the 1.6l which used an old Golf engine.

I bought one and entered a charity rally with it. It was quite nippy but it still only had 1.3l brakes and suspension...

I use a £350 1.9 diesel on a V reg daily - it's done 164k miles. Parts are very reasonable from the likes of ECP.

Let me know if you need any help with anything, I'm getting very familiar with mine using it for a 130 mile a day commute and repairing it myself!

Ace buy, looks clean!

Back in February I got pissed and fell onto ebay wondering what was the cheapest car I could find that had tax and MOT. It turned out that £156 was the cheapest, which happened to be my winning bid. The only thing was, I hadnt really checked where the car was, living in Sheffield at the time and the car was in Darlington.

The car had a non standard exhaust on it, which lasted most of the A1 on the way back. And there was no engine fan or working temperature gauge. I think I spent more fixing it up then I paid for the car, but anyway, it was a laugh

Good deal then. biggrin

As a keen shedder IMO a car at this price point is pretty much worth how much test it has. I bought a 323i a few years ago 7 moths tax, 11 ish month test for 320. Best shed ever sailed through it's MOT then sold it as although the engine was strong the body work was a bit too sheddy. sold it with 256k on the clock!

Good shedding.

Cracking buy, would make a great winter snotter and bet it lives forever!

Without urinating on any potato based products someone posted a lovely volvo 850 estate in the sub 1k thread for £200 which if(big if) it isnt borked would have to take the title.

I always MOT cars before charity rallies rather than risk it and mine needed welding on the outer sills on both sides at under ten years old!

Inside it was like new.

Mine has had some pretty poor rust repairs to the rear arches, there's rust spots on the wings, tailgate and sills.

My first car was the hatch of that, 1.3, X-reg. Perfect condition. Bought it for £100*.

Did 20K in it over 9 months and sold it for £600.

I still miss it, nothing even considered going wrong, and it was a brilliant car. Some of my happiest motoring memories in that.

None of that matters when your glovebox open upwards and is large enough for an ice bucket, champagne and a round of magnums!

  • Previous owner 'relocated' to a 'pedestrian only area'. Bless him.

I can beat that bought a 2000 landrover freelander 2.5 v6 for £200 only needed a new transfer box which was a result.
Also bought a rover 216 convertiable for £90 put a mot on it only needing 2 bulbs and sold it 2 weeks later for 6 times my investment also sold the freelander for twice what I spent on it and getting it back on the road, this was only last month that was a good few weeks for me.

Where does stuff like that come from so ridiculously cheap?

What kind of fees would a private buyer pay on such cheapies? Is it viable compared with picking up stuff from Gumtree etc?

eBay in my experience. Auction without reserve then it’s all about if the seller will honour the sale if it’s what appears to have been won for a very low price. Granted I’ve not had a deal quite as good as this £330 has been my best but that had T&T. Large(er) engined cars just don’t seem to have any demand with the masses which is good news for us!

Looks good, but IIRC (and as mentioned above) thats the Favorit engine with a shiny cover on and not a VW engine. Looks like a good buy at £200, just be aware of the temp gauge wink
