Question for the Spyder owners, do the doors have a very slightly different shade of colour than the rest of the car? I've noticed this in quite a few pictures now and wonder if its just the light or really the paint.

I thought it was just me, but I have noticed that many times. I think it's the light/position of the panels.

the Spyder wheels came in either silver, black ( black front with a greyish inside and silver lip or carrera white acording to the 2010 sales book. exel wheels offer a proper refurb service and are used by some of the main dealers to do their wheel refurbs, you can find them on the net or FB

lepsons do all the work for exel. exel just come to your house, lend you a set of wheels until yours are done then refit your wheel and tyres aswel if you wish at a good price.
i will be geting my wheel done in carera white to match the car when i need some new tyres

Have my deposits in with US dealers. It's becoming increasingly obvious that despite topping two lists, I still won't be getting a GT4. All signs point to a New York Auto Show reveal, so hoping that if I can't get a GT4, I get the Spyder I was originally waiting for all along.

Hi Spyder Owners, I'm after opinions on where to pitch a friends car as he's now looking to upgrade to the newly confirmed 981 Spyder.

He's never sold privately but is fed up being fleeced by the OPC. I will probably end up dealing with the sale as my friend works away a lot. We are meeting up at the weekend so I can get the details but for now I know these -

White with silver Spyder wheels.
2010 MY with only 12k miles
2 owners then my mate David, so 3 in total.
Manual
PSE
PCCBs
Sports seats, not buckets.
No nav. I'll find out if air-con or not.

Condition is genuinely near perfect. He's fanatical.
I don't think he has bothered keeping up the Porsche warranty but I'll confirm.

Anyway, we are thinking low to mid £40k's? Maybe start at £43,995?

Opinions?
Thanks.
Hopefully the mods won't find a problem with this post. I'm a long standing member, just looking for info to help out a friend. smile

PS Jayxx, that's the best colour I've seen on a Spyder. Looks amazing.

IMHO....
Positives are mileage, colour, manual, PSE, PCCBs (very rare), no nav - lightweight track car material so far,........
Negatives: no buckets (massive - with the rest of spec), no Porsche warranty
I don't think you'd look out of line with the market at the price you've suggested, although paying that price privately with no Porsche warranty might put some people off.
Why not start a £45k and reduce by £1000 for buyer to go and buy a warranty wink

Morning DAW,
Thanks for the feedback. Exactly what we'd thought about so far. No main dealer warranty is a big thing to some. I'll clarify that at the weekend though just incase I'm wrong.

Price wise they've shifted since I last looked at them a couple of years ago. Cheapest for sale is the silver car for £38k. OPC hence warranty, but triple the miles and IMO my friends is a lot better looking being the classic white with silver wheels.

Again, yep the spec screams for buckets but the car is purely a sunny weekend road car, so Nav and gadgets are unimportant and the buckets would be a pain in the backside. After owning my GT3 CS I'm firmly in the buckets for race use only camp, as they grip you amazingly but are a hassle getting into/out of and can feel a bit claustrophobic.

Time will tell. We aim to get some photos at the weekend and get it advertised. He has ages until his new Spyder arrives so no rush really.
Thanks again. smile

I am watching the german market because I wanted to buy a LHD Spyder after the announcement of the new one. How long do you think it will take until prices go down?

Today there are still only two cars on mobile.de. Both PDK. One for 70000€ and one for 43000€ (38000 km and 96000 km). Just like last week.

I expected people would sell their old cars just before and after the announcement of the new model but nothing is happening.

prices are up esp LHD, its the only car to book the trend LHD which goes to show UK prices are too low still.

Base price of the new car is up over 20% over the old one, power to weight +12%, torque to weight only +9%.
The 987 is still lighter and has the hydraulic steering going for it which is arguably quite a big deal for a car like this. Shorter wheelbase too, many people seem to forget about that.
It is debatable which one of the cars looks better but I believe 987 Spyder prices over here in UK and Europe will continue to rise despite the announcement of the new model, mainly because over 1000 of the old cars were delivered to the US and the USD is surging.

I was briefly tempted to change my GT4 slot to a Spyder but changed my mind. What I may do is buy a 987 Spyder for this season if I can find a "panic seller". Fingers crossed. wink

One man's charm, another's ballsache. The bottom line is that the new Spyder will make much more sense as a DD than the old one and may make it MORE desirable as a second hand buy unless they put no limit on the numbers. I can see most will add AC and radio back in (it's no charge after all) and while that make the car less focussed in some people's eyes, it will give it wider appeal. Most will specify the big tank too (does anyone actually fall for that as "weight saving"). The net result will be a car that is quicker than a GTS Boxster and only a little less practical (rear visibility is still poor and the GT4 aprons mean no parking sensors). I suppose it will be a bit noisier too - less padding in the roof. But overall I could see it being very popular - possibly more popular than a GTS Boxster if PDK was an option. But will they make very many? I've not seen any figures.

Looks like very limited numbers......only c 45 to 50 cars each year over two years for UK......so I am in, loi some time back deposit paid and order confirmed. OPC reckons only 1 car this year!

People need to MTFU. The 987 Spyder's roof can be put up or down in less than 2 minutes.

That's about 1min 45 seconds too long if it's hissing down. Ok as a weekend dry weather fun car - not as a DD.

If it's hissing down keep the roof up.

There were a few things that pissed me off about my 987 Spyder but the time taken to put the roof up and down was not one of them. If you skipped the back window it could be done in less than 30 seconds.

Each to his own, but I don't think many 987 Spyder owners use their cars as DD. I'm not necessarily talking about YOU or ME. (I rode a motorbike and Caterham without windscreen or roof as a DD for 20+ years - but I wouldn't suggest that is going to appeal to many people - even you). The point I'm making is that the change in roof will massively increase the number of potential buyers for the car.

Once you add the radio and ac back in wont the 30kg weight saving be lost? So a GTS with a bigger engine and humps.

It guess they threw a parts bin engine, body kit & brakes at it. I am sure it will be faster on a track but a bit of a clinical marketing exercise to me. GT4 is clearly the daddy and the ideal set up would be one of those and a 987.2 Spyder imo.

The older concept just seems more coherent. Less weight by 80kg regardless of practicality. For a weekend sports car that is what it is about imo. 987.2 had special suspension for that model only. Correct me if I am wrong but this is normal sports suspension?

The roof looked stupid to some people and from some angles on the old one but the open rear concept was a unique design feature that looks stunning with the main roof on and windows open. What's the point of keeping the old design that looks questionable but with zero benefit?

I don't know, it just seems to have a lack of passion about it. The gt4 for me is the only car that gets me excited in the current new car line up porsche have.
