So you can't simply lift up the boot and the buttresses come loose but still attached, then you shut it again, looks to me like the whole back panel comes up together like the old one ??

I agree - I find the Carrara White Metallic looks off-white, and I prefer my white to be, well, white really.

Looks like this Spyder won't be joined by a GT4 version. Guess that makes it even more desirable in a few years time.

Still sticking with white (non metallic) with black wheels for mine, after giving yellow careful consideration when I saw it at Goodwood.
reviews are annoying

I am quite sure no new engines were about , it's an engine from 2008 !

I think it's the same chassis as the standard car !

Just now you cannot open the boot, and inside it looks like a 1970.s rag top !

they have no idea what is coming in the future ! some say much bigger BHp from the turbo's.

POOR reviews as are most car reviews these days. ZERO real info and mostly bks .

I have always said the 987.2 roof is crap. but it's not ugly and inside the car it's very clean.

GT4 - are you a touch troubled by the 'ring time of the Spyder being only 5 secs behind you beloved GT4 - which would translate to perhaps a fraction of a second per lap on most UK tracks?

I'm looking forward to playing on track with you tin top chaps next year and enjoying the wind in my thinning hair!!

I had the silver Spyder alloys on my last one and they were fantastic. I would strongly suggest you consider something other than matt black, it really does hide the stunning details and shape of these wheels. Platinum would look amazing next to solid white paintwork (or indeed silver paintwork).

It's all about the details, when I had my 987 Spyder I had the silver inserts from the air intakes on the flanks taken out and painted red to match the bodywork. Silver against red on bodywork just looked all kinds of wrong. Similarly I had the silver inserts in the front intakes taken out and painted matt black to match the rest of the grilles etc in that area.

Might have a picture somewhere.

Would love to spec up a brand new car, wonder whether I ever will. I just don't think I could take the depreciation, but maybe in this crazy market there won't be any / much. Great thing to be doing anyway, I'm envious!

PS: If it was me I think I would go with PTS Zermatt Silver with platinum wheels. You won't see many of them around smile

From photos anyway the new car looks a lot more bulky. I wonder whether a metallic would help mitigate that.

I find the red too red and the black too black so I added some red to my black

how do i manage to always manage to get my pictures the wrong way up, they are correct on my ipad

I think many of these magazines have signed some press agreement with Porsche perhaps as journalist/magazine photos other than the ones Porsche supplies seem thin on the ground.

Back to the 987, views on whether the Spyder will be a future classic given we are now a few years on, or is that a badge of honour destined to be forever associated with the 911? Prices holding strong in 40's because of rarity, or because they are destined for greatness? In short, should I jump back in and enjoy wink

just a nice car to drive imo and only about 80 manuals cars left in the UK, nothing else to buy as a fun car bar a Lotus for £40k and a Lotus at £40k will loose you £10k :-(
I am off out just for a drive in mine now, just because it's nice ;-)

As for the 987.2 Spyder, I'm not sure if it will be a future classic but I don't see values sinking much lower in the future, so in my view it's a safer buy than a 5 year old "regular" 987.2. The slightly special models are always the first to stop depreciating.
Not that many cars were made and it's good value compared to other cars. The new turbo 4-cylinders will do the rest to keep residuals stable. The only real flaw is the roof.

That was just a week ago.
no such restrictions on the Sapphire Blue Spyder that was at Mayfair recently .. we could open and close the hood, and generally poke around with no one saying anything

Just my opinion but I think the 987 Spyder will be viewed as a future classic due to:
Low productions numbers
Lightweight ethos
Excellent and pure handling (e.g analogue steering & not electric)

You just have to look at some of the previous older Porsche models to see where the prices are going and the Spyder has always had great press with its handling etc from all the motoring mags.

I know the roof is inconvenient for some people (I don't mind it to be honest but I've had a number of Lotus's) but don't think that puts the enthusiast off. The more you live with it the quicker you get, managed to drop 5mins from my early days of the car smile

If the new 981 Spyder had not been announced then people would be asking north of £50-55k this year.
