Hi all
I am interested to hear from other 981 Spyder purchasers their lock-in time (from lock-in to build date) as I have already passed my lock-in date (mid August) for a December build slot (4 months)?
I ask this as it seems that others with similar build slots seem to still have a few weeks until their lock-in dates and that I was at first told mid September for lock-in for my December build slot.
I'm told mines an October build, but I was still changing my spec earlier this week !!I am interested to hear from other 981 Spyder purchasers their lock-in time (from lock-in to build date) as I have already passed my lock-in date (mid August) for a December build slot (4 months)?

Was planning on visiting the OPC today to sign and print.
Sounds strange

I owned a short shift Spyder then bought after much deliberation and 100 miles test driving a PDK which has been so much fun driven 24/7 in manual mode and for the sake of my licence not 24/7 in sport mode ;-) had the 981 been offered with a PDK I think I would have just ticked that box automatically (no pun intended) however as a hardened manual man with an intense dislike of auto boxes and my current Spyder being the 1st non manual car ever owned I can honestly say after literally a few minutes shifting the new seriously short shift manual box I can 100% say I would have tipexed the PDK option ;-) the clutch, gear change and driver involvement couldn't be bettered with a PDK Porsche going 100% manual was a good call for this particular 981
Yet another 987.2 PDK car for sale ;-) TurboTone2 said:

Ordered in April, delivery expected November, heard just a day or two ago that the status is still Open.I am interested to hear from other 981 Spyder purchasers their lock-in time (from lock-in to build date) as I have already passed my lock-in date (mid August) for a December build slot (4 months)?

I'm October too. Not sure if I'm locked in yet, but apart from feeling like I'm wasting £200 or so on light design, there's nothing I'd really want to change. Was planning on visiting the OPC today to sign and print.

I ordered a December build car (my choice was offered earlier) because I really wanted car in Spring 2016 but was told it will be a January delivery latest!I am interested to hear from other 981 Spyder purchasers their lock-in time (from lock-in to build date) as I have already passed my lock-in date (mid August) for a December build slot (4 months)?

I then ordered PTS and have since been told I am now getting my wish and delivery is subject to a 16 week delay ;-) but I was "locked down" early July because of PTS not convinced how true that was but now that option is off the table I am definitely locked down

I also got taken in by the light design.... Then after seeing Daros spec I ended up ticking the Leather steering column box...I'm now official finished with the configurator nonsense !!
The biggest shocker was deciding on the colour, but now very happy with Guards and Plat wheels.
Roll on October.

Wow - we seem to have gone for a similar spec! I'm now official finished with the configurator nonsense !!

I was at Mayfair with Daro911 and we saw how plastic the steering column looked on the Sapphire Blue car. Yes, it's a little extravagant to spend the money on leather, but as I hope I will hang on to the car I went for it too. A lot of these options are a bit of a waste of money if being critical...
I've also gone for guards and sat plat wheels. Guards looks amazing on the 981 to me. I saw a base 981 in guards out and about and even that looked good. I think these cars deserve a colour - I've had GT Silver before on a 987S and when going to meets I always liked seeing the more bold colours. I tend to pick understated colours for cars, but this time I thought s*d it!
I agree - too much time can be wasted on the configurator. I spent far too much time thinking about colours a few months ago more than anything else as I knew the spec I wanted apart from that. Eventually I narrowed it down to white, red or PTS.

I've gone Black Brushed Ali Trim, instead of Carbon.
But pretty much identical to the untrained.
These cars are going to look the business, really looking forward to the first meet up !!

Yes although the uprated PDK S box would provide a great alternative in both the Spyder and GT4 for those averse to manuals. Unfortunately unlikely to happen. The manual vs dual-clutch PDK auto’ debate rages on between not only Porsche customers and enthusiasts, but also within the company’s own GT division.“We thought about both with this car and I wouldn’t rule out a PDK version in the future,” says Preuninger.
“There is a 50/50 happiness split between the two choices. There is no wrong or right answer. But as a company we have to have both,” a comment that reveals any report on the death of the manual gearbox as being greatly exaggerated.
Preuninger continues: “It is all about taste and how you use it. PDK has the edge performance-wise, but for pure motoring enjoyment on a Sunday afternoon, even I like the manual better. It gives me more to do; this is what a GT is all about. But you also have to appreciate that people enjoy both and the advantages. Many people reacted to the manual in the 911 GT3, but in this car it is just not right to have a manual. Still, so many people wanted a manual gearbox… this car proves we have listened.”
Preuninger also points to the fact that the car, with a Nürburgring lap time of 7m40sec, is the fastest of its size and type, even without a PDK that would shave a few tenths off the lap. “We like to be manual,” he says, “ but we like better to be fastest. If we can be manual and fastest then great. If we’re put under pressure in the future, we’ll react accordingly."
There’s even new life put into this manual gearbox by Porsche making the throw even shorter and adding a ‘blipping assistant’, a sophisticated rev matching system that can be turned off if desired. Preuninger, a man who likes his sports cars pure, is enjoying the system and keeps it on most of the time.
