981 SPY sold for just over £10k including buyers fee and VAT. I pulled out long before the end.

Here are some cheaper ones from a few weeks ago. Some of them need a little working out...

Had a blast today at the PEC - great car , top fun, I loved it . Also had a go in a GT4 - preferred the Spyder smile

I only ever drive convertibles so GT4 wouldn't be on my radar no matter how good it might be but you preferred the Spyder any particular reason why

Very hard to explain - I'll try , but in truth , the simple answer is I don't really know - it just did .......

But if forced , I'd say :

Because of the roof / less sound deadening , It just sounded soooo much better - like a proper growly naturally aspirated thing - but also doing the speed limit (uh hmm) on normal roads with the SE off it is very calm and comfy - perfect for a big euro trip in complete comfort. However drop the SE on , drop a gear or too , pop into a nice B road and it just feels properly planted and it flows beautifully and it feels / sounds awesome - it's simply great fun - not too serious - if you want to pop to the shops on a Sunday morning to pick the papers up - this is the car to do it in - It may take you an hour to do something that should take 5 minutes , but this is the car !

The GT4 - firstly , I only drove it briefly and as such the comparison isn't fair . It's an amazing thing , simply brilliant , but it just felt more serious , not better or faster - I think you'd need to be on a proper track to see this , but on the PEC circuit / real roads - it would be very hard to tell them apart IMHO - on a real track , yes , definitely . The only issue I had with the 4 was the noise , it sounded odd , like a mechanical whirring under acceleration. So , better for the track without a doubt , but this isn't what I would want the car for . I want a car that makes a 5 minute trip to shops last an hour , with the wind blowing through the tiny bit of hair I still have left smile

I can relate to and would pretty much agree with that, having also driven the GT4, I really do like my new Spyder a lot. I have to say that IMO both are great cars, so it's up to individuals to decide which suits their actual needs best, for me I think the Spyder has the edge esp for road use.

Right, that's the spec sorted out and 10% deposit paid. Build date 20th Jan, delivery to PC early Feb but will probably leave it there until March to get the new 16 plate. After sticking with Guards red with black leather/alcantara and red stitching since I learned a car was available, I eventually went for Agate Grey with spyder classic interior, sports buckets, sat plat wheels, painted roll-over bar, PDLS, smoked rear lights, cruise, 2 zone climate, heated seats, PCM, phone prep and sound package plus (still have time to upgrade to BOSE if I decide to).

Should look something like this

or this

Looks great, well done. I get mine around the same time. Also thinking of leaving it till March to pick up. I certainly will if it does not arrive until the beginning of feb although provisional build date is Mid Jan.

Isn't this thread about both?!

This is an interesting comparison. Quite objective I think.

Nice article. Obviously a fan of the 987 Spyder, but I think the comments are well put, fair and as you said, objective. Not read a decent comparison like that elsewhere other than the simplistic lazy rubbish chucked into the 981 articles about the 987 roof.

I have found any moment of 'wanting' a 981 spyder has just been because it is the new model, rather than the all out 'I need one' feeling I had with the 987 spyder.

Be interesting to know if anyone who has collected their car received a specific Spyder handbook......as opposed to the standard Boxster one....confused

I was wondering about that as well as mine is also the standard car, although the manual roof is covered. The label on the plastic bag did say Boxster/Boxster S&GTS/Spyder, so I guess there's no specific one for the Spyder.
