Javelin track days
Discussion
Hi guys, I have been doing track days at least once a month for the last 6 years and have always used circuit days for this. Recently I booked a day at Bedford autodrome with javelin as circuit days were fully booked for all there events, we arrived at Bedford circuit as we have done many times before and took part in the briefing before we went and passed the static noise test, we then ventured out onto track and proceeded to be black flagged within 6 laps due to breaking the mobile noise test by 1 decibel, when I asked if there was anything we could do as we had spent over three hundred pound for this day I was told by the older javelin representative to pop to halfords and buy a new exhaust,
No other possible solutions were discussed as he said that it was track rules and tough luck. In all my years of track time I have never been black flagged and certainly never been treated with the contempt that this javelin rep had extended to me. I think personally that we were the only proper track car there, we were driving quicker than the rest of the cars that morning and generally our faces didn't fit!
I would urge all proper drivers to swerve these javelin track days as they are unhelpful and very clicky !!!

cant disagree more.... the noise limits and testing is done by MSV at Bedford. If your car was too loud, its your fault not the TDO.
Never had problem with Javelin at all, theses threads tell similar stories.

^ agree I've done several javelin days, and has always been very happy with the day! especially for the price! as javelin do seem to be a fair bit cheaper than their rivals.
And it's not javelins fault your car was too loud, Bedford has very strict noise restrictions. We're you expecting them to ignore it for you?

I've had two great days with Javelin. Bedford is notorious for its noise limits, especially the mobile which I believe is 88db?
Javelin aren't responsible for the noise limits set by the circuit. You could have lifted for the meters or taken a db reducer with you.Why didn't 'your face fit'?

I must have been to Bedford at least 25 times in the last few years my car has tipped the mobile test before and the organisers have always just said drop the revs off in certain areas but javelin did not extend me this courtesy
So if you knew you were too loud and where to lift off why didn't you do so before tripping the meters? AFAIK this isn't an "optional" sending home for the TDO and hasn't been for some time - Bedford and MSV are known to be ruthless in this regard.red baron m3 said:

I don't want to join in with giving you a hard time particularly, but come on - you know full well that practically all track operators are having issues with noise, and here you are on an open forum admitting that you've been colluding with operators to exceed agreed noise limits. How the hell is this supposed to help 'the cause' pray? And this in light of all that has been happening at Mallory.Well done Javelin, say I. It seems like they might be one of the few in the industry who maintain professional standards.
When you say "the older Javelin rep" I imagine you mean "The Owner".
Maybe all the times you've been to bedford before, the wind has been in another direction and you haven't tripped the noise meters. AFAIK there is no leeway for either TDO or the circuit owners on this as the noise regs are policed by the local council.

I'm not being funny when I say this fellas but the way my situation was dealt with was ridiculous were were not talking about ten decibels here we were .1 over the limit on a track full of nose to tail traffic I don't see why it was us that we're completely to blame and after all we were 5 decibels of the static limit tested with a cold engine, I just think that our car/faces didn't fit in this case

This is the one that invaribly differs between venues. Whilst cars are on track a reading may be taken literally at the trackside , the venue boundary or at a set distance. Again make sure you understand the method being used and that your car is below the limit.
At Javelin Trackdays we offer a free testing service at all of our events. Most circuits will do the same for you too.
We get frustrated by drivers who spend thousands of pounds on engine mods and very little on silencing. They then moan at Venue Operators and us because we will not let them run when they fail a noise test. What is the point in building a car that cannot be used on track?.
We sometimes get phone calls from clients saying they know that they know their car is too loud can the rules be bent in any way. The answer is always"no get your silencing sorted".

You even admit to KNOWING you were over the limit, then complained when they black flagged you for it This has been discussed MANY times on various forums and is usually mentioned by the TDO during the briefing. Circuits are under external pressures to keep noise down and stay within limits, you KNEW your car could be over but thought they`d turn a blind eye just for you ?
Sounds a bit like you got caught out by being in a group going past the sound meter., possibly at full revs in a lower gear while overtaking.
You said it was a track full of cars.
My only complaint about Javelin days is that they tend to have more cars on track than most other TDOs. Last time at Cadwell with them I kept having to queue to get on track, and I have heard others say the same.
If you went past the noise meter at full revs and passing a group of cars this might explain it.
My TVR is 105.8 dB at 4500 rpm. But with track cans bolted to my tail pipes I can just get below 100 dB to go on track at Bedford. Yet last time out there I didn't get pulled on the drive by all day.
One would have hoped that they could have pulled you in and warned you for such a slight infringement. And do get some tail cans or inserts for next time. They soften the exhaust tone as well as knocking decibels off.
I plan to go to Bedford again this year - sounds like I need to ask the question before I book, so thank you for raising the issue.
