New in Singapore

Greetings girls and boys. I've recently ended up living on this hot little island so thought I'd say hello. I've so far figured out that car ownership is not going to be an option here, so I've got myself a ZX6R to play with. The next thing I've learnt is that Singapore is not ideal for a Sunday morning blast. Where do I head for to find quiet tarmac of a twisty nature?
What's the deal with the old track over in Johor? Is it a turn-up-and-ride-around thing, or is there bookings to made as per the UK track day scene? I'd also like to have a little wobble around Sepang. Anyone have any information that might be useful?
Any advice much appreciated.

Hi JimSBR trackdays are good, I've been going for 2+ years. If you've done trackdays before, make sure you tell Joe or Chumley (the dudes who run SBR) or you will end up in group C with the super slow boys. I've stopped doing trackdays now. I've done a season of racing in the Malaysian Super Series and I'm taking a few years off now. Sold my R6 racebike and bought a KTM 300 EXC to rip up the jungle with. (I've got a 2012 KTM 200 for sale as well wink wink)
Are you riding up to Sepang? Or do you need it towing up? I know a few good guys who can help out for some cash....
Pasir Gudang (Johor Circuit) is ok. But it's a ropey old track. 10 laps will ruin your tyres. There are no marshalls either, so safety is a concern (Malaysia boleh!). Always go with a mate there to be safe. But it's cheap for a cruise around, RM50 for an hour. On a weekday is empty!

Thanks for the info Rich. I'll let the organisers know I've done the odd trackday or two. What's the level like in the Malaysian race series compared to the UK?
I was considering getting an enduro toy to play with. Possibly in the new year. Are there decent places to play locally or am I going to need a van/trailer too??

It's a mixed bag of level to be honest. The last race we had Cameron Donald in the mix (with his crazy beard in tow) and there are a few guys with NW200 experience. Some younger guys with Asia Road Racing experience and lots of MSS veterians too. There are plently of novices and I was middle of the field it terms of pace.I was considering getting an enduro toy to play with. Possibly in the new year. The MSS is a bit, well, disorganised at times and the rules are a bit off too. E.g. they won't let you run wet tyres at all. You have to race on the Pirelli SC2's, even in torrential rain.
Also MSS racers from the previous year/s are allowed to run in the 'novice' group as they set a limit on lap times from the 1st round qualifying. Everyone sand bags and you have guys who can lap 2:16's lapping at 2:24 so they can be in the novice/B category, when they should be in the 'expert' class.

Pasir Gudang is a good laugh but eats Supercorsas. And there seems to be a high chance of not being found for a few weeks if you leave the track on a fast corner.......
Maybe I should correct the first sentence to reflect the fact that Malaysia is a great place to have a sportsbike. And Singapore is quite close by.
