Hi Pete, if you are going to the new SRR, please let me know. Car is running great and would love to have a run out, chat, meet-up etc.
OK.

I'll ask Chilli if he wants or maybe a general shootouts for others as well????

I'm happy with it smile

It's a V8 Developments 5ltr with the 96mm Pistons and 4.6 offset ground crank, cross bolted with H beam rods, forged Pistons, top hat liners and a Stealth cam.
Ported intake, with heads fettled by Knight Engineering with 3 dimensional valve seats.
ACT 45mm carbon trumpets and smooth bore intake pipes.
71mm plenum and 20am airflow meter.
Vectra injectors and a 3bar fuel regulator.
Full decat with Clive's Y Piece and ACT cherry bomb exhaust.
Then chipped and mapped by Joolz
Healthy looking motor there, proper spec' too clap
Yeah just ripe for a turbocharger bolt on !
EFA hehe
hope to see you soon Nigel.

Someone mentioned pistons earlier but what about the old chestnut, blocks and their strength or weaknesses as you all go forth into 400+ horsepower territory?

If and when supply of good old seasoned blocks run out will everything bolt onto a bare Wildcat block which I believe is way stronger than anything BL ever produced?

Probably be May before I get some uninterupted time at home, work schedule is a bit here and there with weather delays etc... You guys crack on, yet to get brakes sorted, various other 'small' fixes needed, major service due, and now MOT has run out frown

Appreciate the thought Peter smile

May or June would be good for a little Saturday fun.

Keep me informed and I'll put up a Shootout thread.

An 'Ultimate' shootout? That would be number 4 or is it 5 now?
We have the April FI shootout at Shakey, so we gonna pick a date at the pod?

Over the Winter i have replace my 4.3 engine with a TVR 5Litre.

Essentially the only difference is 700cc and a Jools 45mm blended base. I have used my 4.3 heads which are standard size valves. Plenum is still standard 65mm. Kent 214 cam. Crank etc all internally balanced. Emerald.

A visit to Jools yesterday and we have this. Its only a further 33hp but to be honest the difference is night and day, probably due to the significant torque increase.

I recon for my spec its about right. Jools recons with big valves, 72mm plenum, more cam Stealth etc i should see 340hp. Have to see what the pennies are like next winter. But for now i`m quite pleased, a lot more low down torque and it accelerates way way harder.

Graph is obvioulsy 4.3 v 5.0.

Well done Ian!

The torque gives you that real world feel of performance.

I suspect the mild cam may contribute to that torque.
Fantastic figures for the current spec. Hats off

Interesting - the torque seems to conform almost perfectly to the 100cc = 10lbft rule-of-thumb.

Torque seems to drop off quicker with the new engine, guess this is most likely the standard valves in the heads restricting top-end flow..? (thinking your 4.3 heads are nicely ported although valve sizes standard?)

Would be very interesting to see a graph comparison of all 3 if you upgraded the heads to 500-spec or stage 3/4 etc - would have thought there would be some nice HP gains as the torque would remain higher further up the rev range...

Very nice power and torque curve.

The SC kit brings the 400 into the real world of power, (for a dated engine iyswim).

Yep agree completely Dom.

I`ve looked at my graph against others and it is almost identical to any other decent 5 litre up to 3k rpm and then begins to loose out. This is most definately going to be valves.

I left the valves standard basically to see exactly what the difference would be between standard and big. O ye and the expense of new bigger seats and valves came into it a bit as well. Next time the heads come off i will probably change to the big valves.

The normally aspirated no NoS Rover V8 BHP per litre challenge has moved on.

Carsy: 62.13 HP per litre.

ChimpOnGas: 62.45 HP per litre (LPG with standard heads)

Phazed: 69.96hp per litre

db484bhpv8: 71.69hp per litre

Chilli: 72.02hp per litre

v8bloke: 85.86hp per litre (TA heads) yikes

I know there are loads missing but v8bloke's result kind of makes that irrelevant, those TA heads are expensive but totally game changing.
My 5.2l will make 393hp..75.57hp per litre.
My goal in near future with STD home ported head´s is 81.34hp per litre. New cam and port/port throat is 5% bigger.. More volume = More power..

fired her up today since 5 months for the first time and everytime a pleasure.
would be 71.4 from the 4.6 JE engine. currently stuck with the T350 project
that will take the whole year but sooner or later there need to be some ITB´s
on the car.
