Would like to introduce Callie to all the puppy lovers on Pistonheads.
We got her one week ago today and she is a wee star!,what a character!.
She is 9 weeks old today and has been to the vets last week for her first jags and a microchip.
So only 2 more weeks then we can go out for some walks.Have started to try a wee bit of training and have got her fetching and bringing back a tennis ball most times, anyone got any hints tips etc especially on Border Terriers?.

Ensure good socialisation. With big dogs and dogs her own size.

Fabulous little mutts, our friends have one. Don't let her near any badger holes or she'll be gone for (literally) hours. More if the badger catches her weeping

Border Terriers are my favourite dog and I'm counting down the days until I can realistically have one myself.

Don't be shy in posting up as many pictures as possible, she's lovely! smile

Funny how some dogs don't fully understand the dog bed concept.

Excellent choice. We have a dog and they are fantastic characters.

They do need firm training like all terriers and can be wilful and selectively deaf when recalling them. Ours thinks with his belly and responds to treats above anything else.

One thing we noticed is that sometimes on walks he will stop, sit down and have a look around. We thought maybe he wasn't feeling well but apparently it is one of their characteristics.

Also, if you haven't already, look up grooming and hand stripping. Ours looked a right scruff until we got the hang of it.

Thanks all for the hints and tips, she is a gorgeous wee thing and so full of energy and so enquisitive.

My wife has started calling her a Border Terrorist!!!!!.

Will keep updating with her progress and some more pictures as I get them.

Does anyone have any thoughts on pet insurance,we have 4 weeks free with the Kennel Club and they have quoted us £18 per month
with the first 3 months half price this is for a life cover with a max of £10k cover with a £85 excess and 10% coinsurance.

Sounds ok to me but open to suggestions.

You might find John Lewis is better. Also very prompt in dealing with claims.

What a lovely pup - takes me back a couple of years.

As others have said, their hearing is selective if there's something to chase! If we don't catch Teasel's attention in a nanosecond after she spots a squirrel/rabbit/cat etc. she's gone.

We took her to puppy preschool at our vets - early socialisation and getting used to the vet, nurses, and environment.

We also went to training classes to get more socialisation and teach her basic stuff such as sit, heel, come (ha!), stay, find it, etc.

Hope you don't mind me posting a couple of gratuitous pics?

A year or so, "throw the damn ball man!":

Oh, and she's insured with John Lewis

Callie was out in the frost for the first time yesterday, charging round the garden like a mad thing!.
She was very intrigued as she could see her own breath and had several mad barking momments at it.

The cat situation is improving day by day, think Molly is jealous and has started coming downstairs more especially when Callie is in her crate.Hopefully things will keep improving as Molly is a really nice natured wee cat.
