Well that's just confirmed it! I would like a frenchie even more now!!!

Thought you guys would enjoy some piccys.

Our friends are dog sitting their daughters dogs while they're on honeymoon. We thought that this would be a great time to invite them round to dinner with the boys. And to give us a feel for what it would be like having them around.

Meet Humphrey. Such a lovely little chap, he's about a year, year and a half old our friends couldn't remember. He liked nothing more than to roll around on the lounge floor with me playing.

After a long evening playing in the garden and in front of the fire he had a kip.

Here he is with his best mate Ruben the Shar Pei. Another fantastic breed. Although Ruben is a bit nervous when he meets new people as recently he was attacked by another dog while being looked after by a kennels!!! he has fur missing on his side from the dog bites. But once he was settled and humps had showed him we where to be no harm his character really started to come out. He ended up following me around most of the evening and every time I sat down he would come up to me for cuddles and licks.

Just need to save up now... frown

The wife is a member of a French Bulldog rescue FB site, you can get rescue Frenchies that are still quite young for £300-£400, it is something that we are thinking about for next year as a companion for our Frenchie; Daisy.

I too am a member of said group HTP.

Although most that need rehoming on there seem to have health issues or behaviour problems.

Not being harsh I just don't think that we could do it being our first pet.

Fair enough and I can understand.

Dailsy was rehomed by us but through someone who works with the wife of someone who I work with, she is deaf; which we knew about, however she is also absolutely mental and needs a lot stimulation and attention; this wasn't mentioned and I think that possibly the reasons that she was given up aren't entirely all of the reasons.

However, she may be mental, she may be naughty, she may be deaf and she may need a hell of a lot of attention but we love her to bits and wouldn't have her any other way.

Slightly different chap here, an Olde English Bulldogge. We got him in early August at 7 months old, unfortunately he didn't know right from wrong and was lacking any sort of training or teaching, and used to get way too overexcited for his own good. After lots of time and attention he's a completely different character. In terms of his breed, he still has a typical bulldog personality, sleeping for about 50% of the day, randomly falling over and generally acting as if he has a pretty difficult life laugh but can run as quick as me, is relatively agile and also enjoys long walks, upto an hour sometimes!

When he joined us, around 7 months old

Heavy rain + an unfinished garden =

(He looks so proud of himself..)

All clean

Smiles all round

At 10 months old now and weighing in at around 28kg. He gets through toys and things to chew on at a rather fast rate, going to have to get some used tyres for him and see how he likes them! Also finds rabbit food more enjoyable than dog food wobble

This is what our boy will look like.

The mum and dad look much like yours.

Popped and saw him today

Needless to say she hasn't had a kiss since she did this!

Haha! I'm blushing now (although you could never tell)!

This is the mother

She had a litter of ten (11, but she lost one sadly), and every one of them are beautiful. I'd buy em all if I had the money and space!

Your two dogs are handsome as hell Blackcup. They compliment each other so well!

Who do you recommend for pet insurance (a question for all)?

My family have owned bulldogs pretty much continuously since the late 40s and we've never had insurance.

Cheers mate, we love em to death, will be hitting Devon possibly Germany next year for more doggy adventures!

As above, we've not had insurance with these two- our Vets are so reasonable its rarely anywhere near the excesses we had quoted.

The savings over the years will more than cover for (fingers crossed never) possible Op's or medication.

Cheers for the replies guys

I still think I'll insure him. I'll always be worrying if he gets ill or eats something he shouldn't have. I have two young kids, and as much as we try to keep the place tidy, we're bound to miss something and the dog will no doubt chew it. Pessimistic I know.

Maybe I should stop reading up on potential health problems in bulldogs. It's pretty much the reason why I haven't yet bought a BMW M5 yet. Horror stories have put me off buying one!

I think - like cars - the health problems are exaggerated by looking on the internet too much.

Bosley (my fat lump of ten year old) has had:

2 x cherry eye (that does go with the species)
Some recurring skin problems
Testicular cancer - caught early
And now has pretty chronic arthritis

But at a month short of eleven he still tries to play football with me when I do the washing up.

In total I'd say vet bills have been about £1000, so I don't feel like insurance would have paid - in my case.
