Trucks being diverted at Calais and getting "boarded" by illegals as they drive along:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cji6fHoxTf0

Contains some fruity language in places.
that just takes the piss. but i guess the driver spots the broken seal and reports it, but it is a bit of pisstake the driver is fined as what can they do besides running them over.
and its £2000 a head we get fined for each one found.
its not just calais this is happening, any services or rest area within 2 hours of the port and your at risk of them trying to smuggle themselves into your truck/trailer. they are a p.i.t.a
Surely there must be ways of securing the trailer better? It looks like there was nothing to prevent them gaining access.

What happens if you check the trailer on the French side and find them? Do les gendarmes remove them and let you on your way? It boils my piss that it's THAT easy to sneak into the back of a lorry. If there was any REAL desire from the French to prevent it, it could be done. Even a thermal scanner at the port that the trucks pass through would show up human heat signatures surely?
I try and do everything in my power to secure things before reaching the dock. We only pull 'box' trailers on our work so there only real way in is through the back doors, its a lot harder for the guys pulling the curtainsiders as there are alot more access points for the illegals.

My own plan is to stop 2 1/2 hours before say, Calais i then fill up with diesel etc, then just before pulling out of the services i have a full walk round the truck, checking all over the outside and underneath of both truck and trailer. I'll also open the back doors check inside the trailer and then once shut we have a special metal cover that blocks any access to the rear doors, once this is in place i padlock it and stick a plastic seal on, (as mentioned above) then its non-stop to the port. So far this has worked for me.
BTW, the illegals have been known to break into padlocked trailers when the truck is unattended, then once they're in some one shuts the doors for them and then cleverly glues the padlock back together so it doesn't appear that its been touched.

I have no idea what happens once you enter the port if they then find illegals, as i have been lucky.
I can't comment on how it is at mo, as not worked for 2 months due to an injury, but my mates tell me it is the worst its been for a long, long time. Probably since the French authorities destroyed all the immigrants illegal camps.

It does seem a tad ironic though as years ago when we used to get into France, from the UK the French police and customs were dead keen on stopping us, to check our diesel levels on the way in, and then tachos, booze, fags etc on the way back home to the UK before leaving France.

Funny how thats all changed in fairly recent years, i wonder why.......

A few years ago I was on a smoke break at work, Waggon pulls up at the security barrier next thing I see a head pops out from a hole in the curtain of the trailer looks both ways then he jumps out a legs it then followed by another and another probably about 10 jumped out in total. It was like someone had shouted scatter the lil feckers were running in every direction laugh. One of the strangest things ive ever seen.

Bit of a misleading title there, should've read "Some bloke balances a parasol on his chin for a nanosecond, in the rain". sleep

You owe me 2 minutes of my life back; 30 for the clip and 1m30s to write & edit this comment so it wasn't too offensive. tongue out

Yes, that twit broke bones in his back, the crew's leg/hip. Worse than that, he broke the spine of a very nice Donzi. The hull was so shagged it went into the chopper and to landfill.

i was wondering how long it would be before someone came along with the "when i was in the SAS, if we ever did a takedown move like that we'd be pistolwhipped" or suchlike. Maybe I will have to make do with this.
