I had a 2001 1.4 Polo. It was anything but quick, incredibly under powered.
I'd get a Fiesta over a polo anyway, even the 1.25 fiesta's are quite nippy cars.

For cheap ins too and plenty of go much more so than 1.4ltr petrols

Fabia vRS
Seat Ibiza Sport 130TDI
Polo 130TDI

All good cars cheap to run and a lot of fun.

Fiesta:

Good haning, good gbox and reliable engines. Parts are cheap and plentiful if it needs anything fixing and at your budget they look alright and do t suffer from rust too badly.

Does he know how slow a 1.4 Polo is? They are not powerful cars and many smaller engined cars are faster.

You can get a Mini Cooper 1.6 for £2500, so much more fun to drive and less anonymous than a Polo. Alternatively, a Ford Fiesta 1.6 Zetec S.

Skoda's aren't cool because of the badge, who gives a **** about the badge when it's got more torque than a boxster s 3.2 of the same age wink

Ford Fiesta, lots of options in your price bracket - low mileage, 6-7 years old
