Ford to reveal next generation Mustang on 5 Dec 2013
Discussion
No doubt this is a superb piece of kit.
If you read the small print you will note that once you place your deposit Ford will hold the price.
All things considered if they add the Recaros and convince me that I will get the car straight off the line, they can have the deposit. If I have to wait till 2016 it's a Shelby 350GT

No recaro option though in the UK. Rubbish.
Hopefully the Shelby 350 will include them (if we get that over here):

I know it may sound a little greedy but do you tink there'll be any prospect of a discount on these at anytime? There cant be many fords that sell at list price?!
At the current price level I cannot see that happening. The dealers' margin can't be that high, nor the manufacturers. The way you make money in mass production is keep your variations limited and keep your line in full production. I think that we are in an era where the manufacturers are trying to build a customer base to allow them to do that. BMW can offer substantial discounts on cars but these start in the £70k's. Merc do similar. JLR so far aren't playing but may have to. Ford are being much more up front, and I think that in the Mustang they have a product which can go global if they handle it right. They seem to have recognised that selling a few LHD grey imports inflated prices is taking them nowhere. They are going to attack the sports car market for the young guy in his late 20's and early 30's head on, and I think they are going to smash down an open door, because what is competing with them. I expect the new Mustang to be on a waiting list from now until the end of production.
Come on! we are not talking about shopping cars that are already lined up in their thousands at UK docks around the country. This is an enthusiast's car seemingly in great demand but short supply.
I normally back the wrong horse but in this case I have staked my money on one and am pretty sure it will be a winner. My big worry is that it will be so in demand that they will become the most nicked car and insurance will be nigh on impossible.
It might be the booze talking but I am seriously using the time before the arrival of the car to revamp my life, mainly by moving out of London to get nicer cheaper digs with space for a couple of cars and bikes with the benefit of cheaper insurance, hic!

Don't get me wrong, its great value but to say that there is no margin?? Ford have a history of heavy discounting, a focus ST for example can be had with a 20% discount on list. The trouble with a brand becoming rebound for discounting is that it become an expectation!
You don't seriously expect to be able to buy a 5 Litre V8 Coupe with all the bits except decent seats for the price of a top end MX5? I didn't say there was no margin but I think it will be small. What commission are they going to pay a salesman for selling one of these? A cardboard cutout of Lee Iacocca holding a bucket for order forms could do it. It's as plain as your nose the problem is going to be getting a hold of the things. They are going to be trying to convert customers to Mondeo ST's and all sorts of crap. cardigankid said:

I wouldn't be quite so sure. They'll still be a niche car, especially the v8. Fuel consumption and VED is still a big factor for many would be buyers. The Monaro, for example, was a pretty similar formula (if you could see past the tacky VXR branding) but it was never a massive seller - all for the better residuals now!Have to agree with the colour pallet i,m afraid !
I'v gone for the Guard green, ( too old at 48 now for yellow or orange cars ! ) BUT i'm still a bit indecisive . Looks a bit grey and dull in some light although in sunshine it looks good .
A few more colours would have helped i think, and no doubt once mine arrives they'll bring out some really cool colours !!!!!!
The dealer did tell me though they are hoping to have some larger paint 'swatches' available by the time May comes around !
