I once saw an S1 or 2 with an oem tartan style interior all brand new material nicely roushed (sp) and clean.

I'm wondering if the original interior of this car would look like a windsock on an oilrig, ie totally shagged. Lets face it, every car that has been cherished has had bits refurbed so worrying about an original interior, especially in an Esprit, is wasted effort.
Purists will be purists though...

I think we all know that that's not an original interior.
Over the years I've seem some truly awful re-trimmed Esprit interiors and that is right up there but hey that's only my opinion.
FWIW it looks like a recreation of a particular Turbo Esprit that originally came out of the factory with a similar red and white colour scheme. As I recall the registration number was something like 328 KOO and the owner had tried to sell the plate to Koo Stark who was a minor celeb at the time.

I really do wonder about some peoples taste and sensibilities. I can't see the sense in pimping a classic like an Esprit to that degree, what a travesty.
To prove you can re-furb and keep it looking good, I've just had my seats re-covered. Close enough to original but a subtle upgrade with the quilting.

The logo does split opinion. Most seem to be in favour.
Remote is for the JVC head unit. A great piece of kit - CD/DVD/DAB/FM/USB/AUX/Bluetooth/AV/iPod/Reversing Camera (not fitted) and 50W/channel which in the snug Esprit cabin sounds great. And yes, there is a TV receiver available but I haven't....
Best feature though is the absence of any buttons. Its just a black/blank screen when not being used. When its on, half is used for source/album/track/video etc but the other half where all the controls are has a proximity sensor which only lights the touch sensitive screen up when ones digit gets about a cm away. Very cool.

Something to remember with Lotus cars, and especially Esprit, is that the generations of Giugiaro car "evolved" rather then being sudden new designs.
The economics of building such a low volume car meant that Lotus was reluctant to abandon large stocks of expensive unused parts. So when there was an update they tended to use up as much of the old stuff as possible before switching over. This is especially true of interior trim.
In addition there was always scope to insist that Lotus built the car to your precise requirements. For instance, my Esprit was a 1985 S3 in Glacier blue with blue half-leather interior. But I was able to insist the car was delivered with "turbo" seats and centre console cover. So if anyone's got this interior you know it used to be mine!! You can see the doors and dash are not ruched leather like the seats and centre console,

Hmmm interesting. It's a pity the "turbo" headrest didn't appear in my pic. In 1985 N/A cars the standard half-leather interior looked like this, with a velour cover on the centre armrest.
In contrast, my tunnel cover was leather (like yours) and my headrests were like this red turbo example,
Note also, in the context of discussion about small differences, that your dashboard instrument layout is different from mine. Mine was like the upper picture and had no blanks in the main panel.

Yes you've got a slightly earlier car to mine, before the air vent controls were moved to the centre consol.
I always thought that the velour in the centre tunnel was an add on but recently I found out that it had something to do with either having air con or not.
My car was registered 1 August 1986 and is totally standard save for the stainless exhaust.
