Good Evening,

I have a last minute trip to LA with my girlfriend from Christmas Eve to Boxing day evening planned and I am trying to get a nice meal organised for Christmas day. We are staying in Pasadena and we were hoping to travel to Santa Monica ( or somewhere similar) by public transport which I believe is on a reduced holiday service, the same as a Sunday service. The Metro website is quoting a time of between 2-3 hours on the bus for the journey, which I believe is about 27 miles.

Should I be taking this journey time with a pinch of salt and should I expect traffic to be less hectic being christmas day?

Would I be paying a ridiculous fare for a cab ride?

Can anyone recommend anywhere nice to go for dinner in Santa Monica or the surrounding area, particularly near the beach?

Many thanks

David

We usually to go to Disneyland for Christmas/New Year; it's absolutely mobbed but still a great atmosphere. Cute songs/carols and it starts to snow at 10:00pm...if you like that sort of thing of course. The Carthay Circle in the California Adventure park would be the restaurant of choice, but I guess it would be all booked out by October. Still, I'd rather be in Disneyland even eating a hamburger on Xmas day than the best restaurant anywhere else.

But is is very very busy over the holidays...but it would be my destination of choice for Xmas in LA.

This x1000. LA is one of the most car-centric cities in the world. Hire a sat-nav with the car if you need the help.

I always found Christmas funny in the US. Thanksgiving is a bigger holiday it seems and Christmas always felt a bit drab.

I know that LA is very car-centric having visited and driven there last year but hiring a car would mean I wont be able to enjoy a nice bottle of wine with my Christmas dinner!

Any other ideas?
