Hi all,as we have FINALLY sold the UK house,we will be making the move to the Eifel in December[I know, not the best time, perhaps] But Christmas in Germany is far more civilised,so quite a nice benefit.
My query is that as my Road Tax runs out in December, what do I need to do-just renew it on line or is there something else I should do?
Thanks in advance.

If you're leaving GB permanantly in Dec (and not returning with GB plates) you do NOT need GB road fund license in D, but you'll have to put it on D plates within 12 months. BUT check with your GB insurer as they might have a get-out clause!!!
NB the TÜV is MUCH stiffer than any MOT (IIRR 156 different points they check) and any non-manufacturer mods will probably have to be removed unless you have an ABE applicable in D!

unless you've declared it SORN or permanently exported, the DVLA will still want your money, and you can still get a fine for not renewing

if you have declared it SORN or exported of course, your insurance may well not be valid

I'd keep on insuring and taxing it in the uk, until the point you either import it, or sell it back in the UK

Out of interest, whereabouts are you moving to in the Eifel?

Adenau,HOPEFULLY we will get a house in Quiddelbach, seems to be taking ages though. We have a temporary appartment next door to the pizzeria just outside of Breidscheid, lovely place.

Hugo, many thanks for that,I'll tax it before we leave on the 16th.

At the risk of seeming rude,I did say earlier in the year that we were moving over as soon as we'de sold the yUK house.http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/imgs/2.gif
It is mostly my fault, for which I apologise, but during the 9 or so trips we've made this year, never really found the time to come and hunt you down!
What are you doing over Christmas? LoL. I suppose its quite possible you have seen the black 350Z with a number plate that looks out of place at The Ring? Cryptic or what.?

Ahh well, I had a senile moment then biggrin

Can't say that I've noticed the car, tbh. I normally would notice a 350Z.

I'm here all Christmas, built a house on the Wehrseifen Strasse (just up the road from Guilias) if that's the Pizzeria that you're on about?

Next time you're in Dodge give me a shout. Or if you need any help/tips with anything, likewise smile

Ahh, the old dry cleaners house. If you walk from there towards Quiddelbach, after about 300 yards in the woods on the right you'll find the old tramp's shack, he's the guy that wanders around collecting rubbish and empty bottles. Walter, his name is, pleasant chap when he's not just butchered a Rabbit biggrin

Pop into the Comfy Corner (Gemütliche Ecke) sometime over Christmas for a beer, ask for Karl thumbup

We have,so I'm told, around 1250 sq feet. That could well be trimmed down a bit, hopefully. Also we hope it to be no more than three months.

If its staying UK reg for a while, rather than immediately getting DE reg- then re tax it, Brits have had there cars seized by Adenau rozzers for thinking they can run it untaxed in Germany, they can check on computer too rather than just the disc in the window.

ps you sort of heard right ref Karl & owning the CC, he may not actually own it, but surely his beer consumption there over the years has helped with Jorgs mortgage payments wink

OK,thanks,I had intended on taxing it anyway-wanted to know what the correct procedure was really.A couple of work mates use english reg cars but they often come beck to the yUK.Perhaps I can help with Jorgs mortgage repayments as well.lol
