So my engine has been rebuilt and I am going to put her back in this weekend (lost timing belt while running) and have a question about the break-in period and what oil should be used. So, how long should the break-in period be and what oil should be used? What operating parameters should I follow during the break-in period?

Thanks!

felt someone should reply to you !
If it were mine i would have thought the normal oil you use would be suitable, and perhaps change this at a 1000 miles. I suspect it would be wise to check head bolts after this period, but there are more knowledgable LOTUS people on here than me. . But the principle must be similar to that of any engine i have built i would think. . .

Anyone else got any wise words to help this chap along ??

I suggest you head over to the Esprit section on The Lotus Forums and post the question there. There are a lot of owners who have been through your experience and rebuilt their engine. There is a thread that deals with a rebuild following your very problem. He seems to know what he's doing and he is about to hit the road, I assume very carefully - maybe he can advise?

That is my thread! I have received some input from some experienced owners and have decided to use the oil I will be running from the beginning (15w50 Mobile 1).
