Here's potentially the most foolish purchase I've ever made but ho hum! For some time I've fancied an XJS but never quite been brave/stupid enough to actually do the deed and buy one. Having looked at a few I happened to be idly looking on Car and Classic last week, and saw this on the eBay links, 33 minutes to run. I may have 'accidentally' put in a bid and won it, unseen, much to my surprise/horror. At 20 I know owning a BL built 1980s V12 Jag is possibly not the wisest decision, but dear god is it nice!
Thankfully when I arrived, she was far better than I ever expected.

I'll keep you all posted with updates, good or bad!

salute you sir..looks tidy. Try some gliptone on the seats- it seems to work really well on 80s Jag leather

Also, check that the rear quarter light windows are correctly sealed as they are notorious for leaking and then rotting the floors etc

Those buttresses are wild, as is the illegal hood ornament.

Looking forward to following this.

I absolutely love the XJS and think the prices at the moment are ridiculously low. I would have gone for the straight 6 myself, always made me laugh that they labelled one V12 the HE 'High Economy'! I really love the early looks with those rear lights, and thats a lovely colour. That is a fantastically classy motor you have there mate, just do yourself a favour - don't calculate how much its costing in fuel!

Are you planning on doing maintenance yourself? you are a very brave man! check the coolant system very carefully. I've had a couple of mates with these and they are amazing when running well.....

HE stood for High Efficiency. This was an upgrade over the original V12 XJ-S which brought about a useful 15% ish increase in fuel economy smile

Well done OP!

Looks a nice example!

Same plate as mine, and also a V12. Since buying mine in April I've covered about 3k miles without any major issues, barring a jammed/warped electric fan that needed replaced. Total repair bills this year, roughly £200 biggrin

Any issues with yours? I assume you've had a good look at all the bodywork and underneath for the dreaded rust?

Shame you can't make Le Mans with us this year, I would've had to make sure you took this, purely to go with the other Jag we're taking!

Looks even better in those pics than it did on facebook!

Enjoy it Lew! Just think.... if I hadnt told you to man up and bid on it, you'd still be in the Micra instead of a magnificent barge to now waft around in smile

(if it all goes horribly wrong, it wasnt my idea! hehe )

That could very easily be Jags plural if you swallow hard and buy that other XJ you showed me biggrin
