Fairly boring little video of what it's like. You can hear the whine of 1st gear at 2 minutes in, you know I've got my toe down at about 2:03 because you see the bonnet rise!
I didn't find that boring at all - loved the delicate manual use of the gear shifter, the engine is so quiet and creamy that it exacerbated the 'clack clack' of the indicator stalk. Are the wipers in their fully parked position, if so what were Jag thinking?
The only real disappointment was just as I expected you call the engine room and ask for full power to blow past that petrol tanker you turned right and went home.
Top job though
Cheers, much appreciated! Yes sorry about that, that road's only a 30mph limit and they speed trap regularly so it's only wise to give it the beans when you've got a clear view!
Unfortunately yes that is the wipers in the parked position. As the windscreen is so small and curved it doesn't allow them to sweep right down without going off the edge of the glass. A bit pathetic really, although if you put the wipers on intermittent and shut them off when they reach the other side of the screen often they'll just stay there rather than returning. Result
The indicator stalk is much like the one in my old Land Rover, you have to be careful with it otherwise it feels like it may fall off. BL's finest quality right there!
Honestly the lack of road noise is something I don't really notice until I get back in my modern daily, which seems pretty unrefined in comparison. If you sit at 60-70mph it's hard to hear any engine noise whatsoever. To me that is the character of the car down to a tee, zip across to the south of France in complete comfort and opulence with your lady friend in tow wearing some fur . When I bought the exhaust I was tempted to leave out the centre silencers as apparently they sap power and make it almost too quiet. Glad I left them in really as from the outside it still gives a lovely refined rumble without intruding into the cabin.
If I get the chance I'll get some videos of it on maximum attack from the outside in the next few weeks.

Too right! It looks dwarfed by my dad's Mondeo and I'm fairly sure even my mum's Suzuki Swift is wider.
Another short video of it coming past:

Ignore the thicko comment afterwards
I've come to a big decision today and I'm afraid it's time to call it a day with the Jag after winter is up. I intend to give it a good winter service, do all the engine belts and a few other labour intensive bits, and then put it up for sale. Sort of torn but I can proudly say I've owned and enjoyed one of my all time favourite cars, and it's time to move on to similar pastures, but new pastures all the same!

itcaptainslow, it'd be great to see you about. In the new year I wouldn't mind arranging a local pub meet or something on a monthly basis so it'd be good if you could come along. I'm sure between us on here we could get a nice little selection turn up.
The next time myself and a few petrolhead mates get together for a drink, I'll drop you a PM be good to meet you and your Jaaag. EDIT-especially before you sell it! any plans on what's next?Lovely old job! That'd be great. Had a change of heart today after powersliding everywhere on the way to the pub, put such a smile on my face it'd be a crime to let it go so soon
I'm planning on a Chimaera, but that'll come in time. Both me and dad are thinking of buying one half and half, sadly at the minute our house needs a new bathroom, my little brother needs a car as his test is in a few days, and I've just got the insurance renewal through on my daily driver. Not the best time to go buying!

A bit of last minute booze procurement, ahem sorry I mean Christmas shopping, with class. Only 11 days until the tax runs out so as it was dry and the sun was shining it only seemed right to go out for a run.
New springs, shocks, ball joints, subframe mounts etc. have all arrived so once she's off the road I can get cracking with that.
I haven't been able to resist the temptation to go off viewing and test driving TVRs so you never know, over the next few weeks the Jag may have a new stablemate
Too right John, you just have to remember what the car was built for and then it shows what it's really all about, great for high speed straight line stuff but don't go attacking country lanes!
A good mate on here has got a 1990 3.6 manual and that's always impressive, goes as well if not better than mine.

You really can't compare a manual 6 cylinder with a V12 auto.Making that comparison on a like with like basis is a game changer. Then put a Harvey Bailey roll bar kit in and some Bilsteins and it will also handle to match.A good mate on here has got a 1990 3.6 manual and that's always impressive, goes as well if not better than mine.

the 3.6 with a manual gearbox is a great car.the V12 with a manual gearbox is hard to come by and not to reliable if my memory is correct.www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7F9U8GHPd4

Always enjoyed that video XJ How much is the HB roll bar kit roughly?
I bought it all too long ago in my case to provide any up to date figures now.But I'd expect it to be just as cost effective today as it was then.At that time I bought the roll bar kit from HB and the shocks from the local Jaguar dealers parts dept.Which was still supplying TWR/JagSport tuning parts at a great offer price then.To give an idea of the prices towards the end of their JagSport stock line they were supplying new complete JagSport 6.0 litre engines for less than £5,000.Which I added to my shopping list to go with the shocks. Christ that is quite something, I've always thought even the standard 5.3 should've been a fair bit more powerful so that must've been a very attractive prospect at the time. Aren't the TWR engines around 320hp? Does the conversion to manual still work with the sprung tail mount at the rear of the gearbox? Mine is still causing problems, firstly the bush simply wouldn't fit and locked the whole thing solid, so I had to carefully trim each end down which seemed completely wrong. Now unsurpringly the prop appears to be rubbing again when cornering hard. I suspect the bush was a crappy aftermarket replacement, despite the fact I paid for genuine!
