We bought a juicer yesterday, purely out of the blue,

They say they are good for shedding a few pounds & are supposed to be very good for you. It's still in the box unopened ,

Anyone own one on here & can advise the way we can get the best out of it.

Not sure i fancy Broccoli & celery juice tbh

"They" being idiots. If I were to diet, I'd want as little calories to fit a big amount of space as possible. I would therefore not drink my calories but eat them.

However, if you don't have time to eat your nutritional requirements, then juicing them isn't terrible. You just don't get the full benefits that come from eating fruit and veg.

Eating or drinking make no odds- It's still food, and you control how much you get what ever form it comes in.

We have an allotment & seemed to waste so much last summer , juicing seems to me like you could eat more natural goodness in a liquid form rather than whole.

Easier to digest a liquid form. And then you feel hungry again.

Too much washing up involved with the one I bought - so got rid after a couple of uses.

I make soup using a blender with excess vegetables smile

But you're odd. Most people will find a juice won't fill them up for long and will go degen.

Let's face it - for every one of you and I there are 20 fat, frustrated women with dusty juicers. No euphemism!

Juice, then ferment, then drink. Fewer calories in it after the yeast has had the sugar. smile

"Juicing" is a consumerist concept of taking away the good part of food, leaving behind the worthless sugary residue.

It's one of those strategies for making something that is bad for you seem like a good idea... wink

Get a Jason Vale book, he is the "juice master". I found his book and my juicer a god send when dealing with my cancer [twice] when I could not deal with solid food.

The book that comes with a vitamix has plenty of recipes. Not all will work unless you have a vitamix (hot soup for example) but it will give you some ideas if you pick one up or download it.

So long as it still has the fibre in it and you don't throw anything away it will be good.
Want all those nice greens but want it to taste of something else, use one of the many recipes of FB to make it tastes nice. A female PT friend juices all ze time. All the greeny goodness, but throw in some ginger or mango some overpowering tastes and it's tastes supah.

My juicer chicks a lot of fibrous stuff out (but I mostly use it to make cider).

I'm not into juicing but the missus is. As previously mention Jason Vale seems to be the man. You can get his apps on Android and Ios, which create shopping lists, daily plans and how to videos. I attempted his lose 7lb in 7 days but had to give up after the 5 day due to cramping and losing about a stone which I haven't got. I was training hard at the time. Cardio improved but forget weights after about day two.

This does seem like a good way to ramp up the veg you eat. I find it easy to get protein in the diet but often only have a decent veg portion in one of my daily meals. A juice to start the day sounds an easy way to get some extra in?

Only the nutrients but not the roughage which is supposed to prevent bowel cancer.

Blending is likely to be better than juicing from that point of view.

Sure - but i eat lots of oats, brown rice, fruits and nuts for snacks (i make my own protein bars packed with all these)

And I'd still have normal veg - I'm just thinking it seems an easy way to boost the supply?

For example...one of my regular meals is tuna, bit of mayo on a couple of ryveta......sure, I could add a load of steam veg but that would take ages to chew through compared to a juice when its just a mid morning meal.
