Booked our flight earlier for Easter, we fly in and out of LA and have 2 weeks there. So what do we plan now, and which way around would people recommend?

We want to do 3 or 4 days in las Vegas
the grand Canyon
Hoover dam
we also want to spend the last few days at a beach resort before flying home...

Any recommendations on how we do it all? We intend to hire a car.

Done LA/LV etc twice a year for many many years(17). La ain't great, Santa Monica is though. If you are hotel based, a drive through death valley to Vegas then to grand canyon, many routes back, Palm Springs, San diego then back to SM. of course much to fill the gaps. I Fly into Vegas on the 20th, pick up a motorhome and drive around the same area, not sure where apart from Xmas day in palm springs, restaurant booked ! LV for me is a max of two nights. Being in a Motorhome you really can just go where you want, pull up and sleep, cheaper per day than a hotel.

If you're willing to look past it's association with a crappy American TV programme, Laguna Beach is worth spending a day at.

I know I forever seem to be pointing people at my reports but a few years ago I did exactly the same thing as you....

Here's the full trip report of my holiday

If you don't have time to read it all then I'll just say whatever you do make certain you take the trip to Hearst Castle at San Simeon... I'd fly back to CA just to go there again.

LA is fantastic, anyone who says otherwise is just lazy and hasn't made the effort. There is a ridiculous amount of stuff to do, see, eat, enjoy etc. Depends of course on your personality and what your interests are. (and when I say LA I really probably mean Sothern California)

I think LA is a dump. I hated it and won't go back.
The only benefit it has is geographical and a load of fantastic places are only a drive away.
