No need to shout; I wasn't grinding weld but the apron edges of the hole let into the down pipe. Don't want anything too prone to glowing. Most of the welds were back purged but that one wasn't; still pretty clean nonetheless. Fine for an exhaust

A bit mundane compared to some of the work on here but anyways....
Getting tired of having to change the otter switch, on what seems a yearly basis now, quality is pretty poor these day's, they either go closed circuit and keep fans on, or just don't close at all and have to keep an eye on the gauge so I can use the overide switch, the last one failed on its first outing and was operating much lower than its intended scale, so effectively the fans were on pretty much constant, fed up now with something so simple so thought I'd try and adjustable otter switch instead, that way I can set the temp to exactly how I wanted it. Failed to source one from David Beer, so found one on bay that looked OK, fitted this morning and works a treat, hopefully more robust than the switch it replaced.

If that switch is the type that uses the bulb that passes into the radiator hose or the rad itself then I have found that the copper pipe on the bore tends to fail particularly with vibration.
There is a similar type of adjustable switch that uses a sensor that you splice into the hose that I have had more success with on my old Rover P5B. I think it came from the MG owners club.

Woah, that turbo looks the bks! Wish I was doing something like that, but today I bolted up the y-piece, added a new earth from the bolt at the back of the near side which I'll connect to the swirl pot, reconnected the PAS u joint in the hope that it prevents it leaking (had to remove dizzy again), attached a few more cable ties and changed the headlights for Nightbreakers. I'm still waiting for my bloody rocker covers. Wheels back on tomorrow afternoon/ evening and I'll have a go at the crank pulley, so I can send it of to get it balanced... Eagerly awaiting Phazed's Emerald install so I can make use of his MS! I'll also seriously consider doing the screw lid mod for the headlights next time.

That seems insanely hot Daz,
I adjusted my bonnet fixings as the N/S had dropped a couple of mm.
Got the car on the two post ramp at work and checked over all my previous re building of the front suspension and brakes,
Adjusted the position of the bottom rad hose to keep the stainless pipe from knocking on the steering rack,
Nipped up all water system hose clips,
Faffed about with my stepper motor, I'd tried a slightly longer spring to help it get started, didn't work, cut said spring down so offering less pressure and it seems to have worked,,,,, well it did yesterday?
Some guys will know I got the grinder to my exhaust some months ago and yesterday was the first time I'd polished it for about 2 months.
The Y piece and manifolds had a few rust spots as its not rained much but I regularly wash the car so it often gets wet.
Really pleasing results and totally justifies the day or two I spent grinding then wet and drying it and finally polishing it in the first place.
I can't believe we all haven't done it the pleasure every time I open the bonnet far out ways the time doing it.
It was 30 deg yesterday and I polished them in the sun, sort of extreme training, lol.

Finally got the Steve Edwards headlight covers fitted yesterday, I think they look great but still wonder if I should have had the inner cowls painted to match the body.
Mopped the front of the car before fitting with the auto finesse revitalisation kit stages 1 and 2. excellent kit, removed a lot of the small scratches and swirls on the wings.
Also fitted my new dash
well temporary fit, until I can mount it front of the stereo. went for a drive and quite like it here though, as my rev counter isn't currently working. The tablet is an 8" Lenovo miix 2 which runs full windows 8.1 so can run the full version of tunerstudio and megalog viewer. also have Navigator free running.

Apparently the best thing to do when you strip a thread on a sump bolt is silicone a bolt in the sump until it falls out and drops oil all over the underside. :-(

Most decent garages would be able to drill that out and re-tap if necessary. I recommend a new sump gasket and a set of bolts and spring washers for when you replace it. You can get the bolts, washers and spreader plate cheaply from Rimmer Bros, just remember that the two bolts at the rear are slightly longer when used with the spreader. I've recently purchased the rubber gasket from EBay.
