Congrats to Derek after his day today clap (suppose he is forcing it in so to speakhehe)

Its a great set its paid for its self many times over already...I've welded exhaust, header tank, radiator, intercooler, boost pipes the list goes on. Make sure its AC/DC with a foot pedal smile

They do call it chemical supercharging. Cheers Neal. Cant wait to see yours out there. You would love it on the mile mate.

Me too....so just took the plunge and bought a tig. Been welding only a few months with it. You soon pick it up and the amount of help/forums etc you soon make good progress.

Me too, bought a tig and all the trimmings last year, now Im welding alu, steel and stainless like a champ (or chimp). I spent 4k though, and got the good stuff from Kemppi. 50l bottle of Argon/helium mix. The 30% helium makes tigging alu a bit easier, like if you encounter dirt in the alu while welding, it just floats up to the surface instead of destroing your weld

Getting there but don't look toooo close wink this is a driver not a queen!

Bit of a wire brush, scrape and rub down, rust killer and a thick coat of Rustoleum.

Tomorrow, fit new tubular front wishbones, Polybushes and revalved Nitrons.

When I bought Neal's old motor I copied his install. Previously the two turbos were fed via 2 foam cylinder filters squeezed in front of the rad and behind the intercooler. This effectively blocked a portion of the rad and I am guessing would also not help with intake temps when not moving. The turbos were fed via 90 degree pipework coming through where the panel filter is in the photo directly into the turbos (I'll post a pic if I can find one).

This also means that to change/clean the filters it is necessary to remove the turbos and radiator.

Once finished two 60mm pipes will be fitted to the back wall of my new air box feeding straight into the turbos.

As part of this little project I am also upgrading the second fan (I already upgraded one) as on hot days the temps don't arrest after a blast then sat at tick over. I am hoping that the combination of 2 x higher airflow fan and removing the filters from in front of the rad will improve cooling.

My only slight concern is the limited size of the air box as despite a bit of googling I have no idea how important this is on a FI car….

There have been a few posts about this (Pupp was looking into it) so I took a leap of faith and bought a filter for a L322 SC Range Rover and started cutting… If it all works as planned I will post more details………...

I have acquired a Sp6 Cerbera air box, which is generally the right shape and configuration for my set up but is slightly too high to get under the bonnet. It can be modified easily enough and there are K&N panel filters etc of the right sort of size to go in there so I'm definitely interested to see how this goes Matt.

That said, my current filter in the bay, sitting half over the rad top is not (so far) showing any signs of struggling for air, nor are inlet temperatures suffering (generally a couple of degrees above ambient with the CC running). May change of course as I ramp the boost up but I think my next (maybe interim) move will be to let a NACA duct into that panel directly in front of the filter to encourage air up and over the rad - there's a good looking carbon one of just the right size I've identified and I doubt this will significantly compromise flow through the rad and CC heat exchanger.

After three and a half years in storage finally got the MGB back to my new gaff where she'll be keeping beastie company. Lots of little jobs outstanding on beastie and a nut and bolt resto for the MG, which is all part of my cunning master plan to spend less time in the boozer. It is only a plan though, and plans have been known to fail. But not this one..... Maybe.... scratchchin

It's nice to have the tinkering space.


When I built a kit car many, many years ago I used to go into the garage quite often at midnight after the pub etc.

I usually had to check what I did the next day!

Start changing the radiator at 4pm, can't be that hard can it so I'll be done before dark wobble



Does this gap between the radiator and the nose look too big? Thinking about cutting back the rubber washers, surely it's less efficient to have air escaping over the top of the radiator rather than going through it?

Polybushed and fitted front tubular wishbones.

Fitted front revalved 46mm Pro Nitrons.

Revolved rear top wishbones and removed the old Metalastic bushes.

How can a day go so quickly?

Just finished up on the dash and put back together. Sadly not sourced any LED's to replace the dash bulbs, but will keep that for another day. Going to have to order some new black carpets now...

I'm also interested to see how you both get on, working on some ideas as well, trouble is the intercooler takes up valuable space in front of the rad.

'Correct' battery fitted - Yuasa YBX 3069 - in lieu of the halfords 'I need a battery, it kind of fits' item that had been installed.

Removed the passenger seat ready for the Elise seats being fitted tomorrow.

Fitted some ali mesh over the two bonnet vents to stop the leaves filling the manifolds up.

Drilled out the loose pop rivets in the air box and fitted some a2 s/s bolts and nylocs (plus threadlock).

Did some tiling too.
