A year since the wheels were re-furbed, its finally happened. Driving down a country lane, pot hole, very minor alloy scuff, about 1.5cm long - graaaa! Happy to repair it with the Wurth spray as apparently it very good.

Just one question, as its so small do I have to prime the area first and rub it down with some wet and dry or can I just clean the area, quick spray and then lacquer? Don't shoot me for asking stupid questions if it is indeed stupid!

Depends if they were painted or powder coated?
Reason I say that is with a 1k product the solvent content is extremely high and chances are the feathered edge of a powder coated wheel is going to react.

That said, although these spray cans say they have etch/priming properties you really should prime if its down to the metal.

I think by the time you've paid for a can of primer a can of paint a can of clear and all your consumables your not gonna be far off the price of a single wheel refurb.

Original Powder coat is unlikely to react with solvent, any feathered edges just need a quick squirt with 1k etch and a key with grey scotch before painting. Some powdercoats are softer than others though, and sometimes the edges can soften so don't load the solvent on, dry, light coats to build the layers up will reduce the risk.

Its not original, OP suggests they have not long been refurbed, but doesn't state powder or paint.

Your right, he did say the finish wasn't original, but I'm not wrong in saying it, for people reading this thread that might have got the impression that refinishing powder-coat finishes with solvent paint would cause an issue.

More than likely if the wheel has been refurbished, its been wet sprayed and priming the feathered edge would be advisable for a good result prevent the old substrate from being visible in subsequent layers of silver and clearcoat.

I'm in a similar situation to the OP, except my wheels were refurbished at Laptab, so my understanding is that they were powder coated.

As it is only a small scuff is it best to touch it in?
