I'm not an engineer...

I've noticed the new 4 door 8 cylinder Chevy and was wondering how difficult it would be to replace the automatic with the Corvette's 7 speed manual?

Can this be done? What are the considerations?

I'd be dubious about it being a proper conventional manual box with 7 gears.

It is possible, but would be very very unusual.

Find out more details about the trans first. If it is fully mechanical, then it will certainly be a lot easier than if it has lots of electronic control, or if it is part auto.

It would be a bit more sensible to import the VF Holden Commodore which the Chevy SS is a badge engineered variant of. That way you get RHD and a manual gearbox without hacking it about. You can always buy the Chevy trim, which will be much easier to fit than a gearbox.

Also, isn't the Corvette a transaxle setup as well. Therefore no good for a conventional gearbox swap? confused

Modern cars, particularly GM products are a nightmare for this sort of thing,we did a 03 Vectra diesel a while back and apart from having to change the obvious stuff,
gearbox,clutch,flywheel,pedal box,linkage/lever assembly and shafts
we had to replace the engine bay and dashboard/bulkhead inner looms along with the instrument cluster, plus one auto specific module.
After all this we had to reconfigure most of the cars modules, including the heater a/c module and even the radio.
The bill was £2800 using mainly used parts on a then 6/7 year old car,
It`s just not worth it or easy any more.

I once bought a Cortina Crusader that was auto,I was 17 and hated it.
I went over the breakers and got the bits I needed for £75,I got up early on Monday morning and did the conversion on the road outside my sisters house with the nearside wheels on the path for clearance and was finished before the wardens came along and drove to work in it,those days are sadly long gone.

It probably is, but the old T56 and TR6060 was also an inline as well as transaxle fitment.

Anything is possible really....£$£$£$£$
