Morning, I'm after some info please. I'm looking a buying one of these cars but the turbo needs replacing. The chap has removed the turbo that was on the car and markings show it being a IHI VF38. Looking on't google it looks like this turbo was never fitted to an Impreza?? Does anyone know what turbo should be fitted or point me to where I might be able to find out? Can I find out off the parts number from the VIN?

Thanks.

I think on the bugeye STi import it was originally a VF34. You could put a VF35 or VF30 on it and it would run very well. They come with bigger valves too so breathe a bit better than UK cars and a shorter ratio gearbox so bit quicker off the mark and through the gears than a UK car not to mention they make a bit more power out of the box.

Once upon a time if you mentioned the words 'Grey Import' people would run away due to the availability of parts etc... We are all a bit smarter and better informed about imports these days and it's fair to say parts have never been easier to get hold of being readily available off the shelf. Nowadays we covet imports, specially the Impreza.

IMHO if i do it all over again and buy another bugeye it would have to be an STi import wagon or an S202 or both if i win the lottery but it would definitely have to be an import smile

Thanks for the info. I spoke to the chap and he's had another look and its an VF30. I'll get one ordered up, fit it and get it mapped, then I know its all running right before I can have a little fun. What sort of money are these valued at within the Subaru community these days? The buyers market is strong but I think I've done OK with this one.

Thanks.

IIRC correctly VF30 was the correct turbo for the import bug. Fit a VF34 or VF35 and a map and you'll be laughing.

Value wise depends on condition, but anywhere from 4K upwards. The blob jdm fetch more as they are twin scroll and rather epic

VF34 was standard fit on the S202 my mistake. VF30 is a good turbo though. Got a VF30 here, rebuilt and run in.

Are you looking to sell the VF30 per chance? I'd like to replace it with what came of the car.

Thanks.
