Morning all,

Father in law currently lives in Dubai but returning to the uk in May. Well I say that, but they'll be spending half the year at their house in France.

They've ordered a new X3 for when they return, but are struggling with the insurance side of things.

Does anyone have any tips/hints? Do they get insurance in France as well?

Thanks in advance.

NFU and Saga are two companies that will allow extended ( more than 90 days abroad )stays abroad while mirroring your cover 'at home'. As long as the car is registered in the UK and they are resident there rather than France they shouldn't have any problem with the les flics.

Did a job for a customer resident in France he other day. They have a UK reg car UK insured for use here all year round with E Car, under written by Southern Rock (I think).

Stuart Collins.

Will inevitably cost a lot but there you have it, you can have your car overseas for as long as you like.

Otherwise it's third party only on any standard UK insurance policy, which comes by default.
