I've got a viewing on a private sale vehicle later today - V8 Land Rover Discovery 3 and I'm trying to sort day insurance so that I can drive it FC. My current insurer won't allow me to temporarily add cover for it.

The vehicle in the last few weeks has come off private plate. The online MOT service shows the correct current registration.

However, all of the day insurance companies either list it incorrectly as a Toyota Corolla, or say 'invalid registration'.

When contacting the companies, they tell me to register it as a Van. I go to that, and it lists all the diesel models, but not this petrol one ! They then tell me 'can't help then, sorry !'

I'm clearly doomed to fail in getting cover, has anyone got any suggestions on what I can do?

edit- ooops, wrong part of the forum

Have a look around for a local independent broker and see if they can help rather than a call centre or online insurer, they will probably have a bit more flexibility

I'd just take a policy out with admiral and cancel it once you're done with the test drive. They only charge you around £25

Good shout. I'll try Chris Knott and A-Plan. I don't know of any smaller specialists locally.

A-Plan can't provide cover - unknown policy reason given (I'm 29, I can only think they want me to be 30 for it, but this is a Discovery, not a Ferrari for goodness sake)

Chris Knott don't do day cover

I've mailed the chap asking if he can add me on his policy for the day if he is desperate for me to have FC cover, but understandably he may feel uncomfortable about this.

Absolutely stunned something straight forward as a Land Rover is this much trouble!
