That bulb image is fantastic. In fact, all of the above images are fantastic. Some good shots there guys, keep them coming!

Thanks, they are not hard to do, just zoom in (or move with a fixed lens) to get the field of view right, select a suitable aperture, then increase the shutter speed until the rest of the image becomes dark enough to get the filament shown as discrete elements rather than a mass of light.

The one above was f6.7 1/250sec ISO400 and the one below is f9.0 1/250sec ISO400

In a cottage in Harris near Tarbert just now having spent a happy week bombing about the place taking pictures.
Stunning weather, quiet roads (well, quiet everything really!) and kamikaze sheep.

Love that. If you don't mind sharing what exposure time etc did you use? I've looked at panning tripod heads for photographing the night sky but cant justify it.

A fair bit of messing about got me to 20 secs, f4 (as wide as it goes) and ISO 20,000. The 5D mk3 is a really remarkable camera. It's also properly dark here.

30 secs was giving too much movement on the stars, it looked fine until I zoomed in.

Of course I'm now looking at investing in a wider lens with a bigger aperture....

It has been a long while since I posted on here, around two years I think. Finally having more free time I have managed to get back in the habit of taking a few photos, thought I would share them here and if anyone has any comments or suggestions that would be great.

These are pretty much all straight from camera as I haven't got in to software yet.

Thanks. I have a 5D mk2 and have always wanted to get shots like this. I live in Northumberland where there is very little light pollution, but the Milky Way only seems to be overhead at stupid o'clock in the morning when I'm looking to shoot it.
