Some stunning photography on this thread! It is with some trepidation, at bringing the quality down, that I have chosen some random photos from my first 12months of shooting with B&W film....

The second photo would look absolutely period (as far as I can tell), if the chap on the right weren't holding an iPhone hehe

Good work though, I like them!

Thanks for the compliments - it's goose to know I'm doing something right! That's the problem with shooting those sort of events, to make the picture as authentic as possible you need to remove as much modern "pollution" as possible......pesky iPhones! smile

Finally caught some lightning on camera smile pity it stopped after the first photo, so no chance to get a better shot.

Cracking pictures as usual gents!

I don't know if this is 'good' (or not!) from a photography point of view but i've been playing around in Lightroom with this one and kind of like it...

Not the best sunset tonight so focused on getting something from the sea defence and a moody sky .

Stop that Rob, you're in danger of turning into Steve Carter...and we've already got one of him to hate for being too talented and living amongst such gorgeous scenery...

I was just going to post something about how you'd done well to get those without any anachronisms in there. I hadn't noticed the iPhone in his hand, my thought was the chap on the left was dressed a bit modern but it's hardly noticeable. I took some at a local civil war battle re-enactment, and it's hard to get anything that doesn't have someone in a high-vis suit, or a portable toilet, or a lamp-post in the background.

I've been so busy for the last 12 months I barely got to go out with my camera. I'm desperately trying to change that. Although I'm not shooting what I want to (portraits) and they're not great images, at least I'm doing something!

Thanks for the comment! I find the easiest way to minimise modern "pollution" in vintage shooting is to use a 50mm prime, as it forces you to get up close, crop tightly, and shoot detail stuff. Shooting with film doesn't really give you any leeway to do any photoshopping afterwards!

Interested to know where this was - I have a similar shot, taken a couple of years ago, looking over the Thames estuary, from Shoeburyness
