Are you buying from a private seller? When was the last MFK? Can't you get the seller to put a new MFK on?

To be honest I haven't found the Swiss MFK test to be unreasonable. Their main focus has been safety and emission. As long as it is standard.....

so whats the deal with mfk ?

i read somewhere it needs a new mfk every change of hands ? as its a older car

or is this not the case it just needs a mfk newer than 1 year and i do mfk every 2 years as its a older car ?

will the mfk be enough assurance that the car is sound if it passes ?

Hello,

it will not be enough assurance (IMHO) :

The MFK assesses whether a vehicle fulfills legal safety requirements.

for information, MFK will confirm the car :
- as the right chassis number
- is ok with the gaz regulation
- is equipped with right size tyres and wheels (original or homologated)
- brakes, dumpers and lights are ok
- the chassis as not so much rust

So, if the car doesn't pass the MFK, you can be sure it's a poor car; but if the car pass the MFK, you will just be sure it's not so bad car…
