while cleaning car this morning noticed in the rear passenger footwell, weter, just enough to cover the top of the carpet. ive had a look at various threads on here and none seem to point to the problem.
windows and door seals are fine, no water at all on the front, rear, or side of the well, just in the bottom,
took the rear seat out, lifted the carpet, must have been a few pints of clear water, assume its only a recent problem.
did 100 miles yesterday in the rain.
cannot see where it could possibly be getting in.
any ideas or anyone had the same problem,
much appreciated
07 vxr8 if that helps

Dear e,

'ro or '8?

If the former then the internal door seal is breached/unstuck, very common,

regards,
Jet

Take the door card(s) off and check the placcy membranes? I used sikaflex to repair the sealant on my monaro's membranes, but to be honest I should strip it all off and do a complete refresh (MF sell the sheet plastic, not sure where else to get it).

I had exactly the same issue on the previous R8 once, and once only. The only thing I could put it down too was that I had had it washed at the local EU car wash and perhaps they had held the jet wash on the door seal for a bit too long.

I've never had the issue since but I've been told that the R8 is prone to letting water in, certainly the very first one I ever looked at was very damp and mouldy inside!

cheers,
its not through washing as it hasnt been done for a couple of weeks.
Couple of weeks ago when i cleaned it out there was no sign of dampness or water.
After having another look, i doubt it is coming from seals etc, as it is bone dry everywhere except the bottom of the footwell.
with the depth of the soundproofing along with the carpet and the deep well i have used 3 full size bath towels to mop it up.pretty dry now and will get the heat gun on it tomorrow to dry the rest out.
never had any musty smells, no mould, clean water that came out.
its a mystery to me as no signs whatsoever of water / drips, other than the well.
there are no grommets in the well.
just hoping someone else has had the same problem in the past and can point me in the right direction.
thanks again

Is the window wound up to the top properly?

Check the drain holes in the bottom of the door. If they are blocked, then the water will breach the membrane at the bottom of the door card.

Iv'e used talc before to track down leaks:

Get some talcum powder and mist it around the window and door opening seals (or anywhere you think it's leaking), and close it up. Now spray it with a water hose (not on jet) , and then give it a while for the water to drain away. Now look at the seals. If it's leaking there will be a water trail cut through the powder.

This will also tell you where it isn't leaking from too wink

Has the water tracked down from the front passenger area?

Is it damp under the glovebox?

Six Hours on it today, trying to find where water is coming in,
Guess what?? for the life of me, cannot find anything, its as if someone has poured a couple of gallons of water right in the middle of the footwell.

Front footwell bone dry, as are all the others,
drains in bottom of doors clear and water running out of them, while pouring water down between window with door open,
there are no water marks anywhere.
all rubber door seals look perfect, again no water getting past them
Dried it all out with hot air gun.
Had the hose pipe all over the rear end for 30 mins, followed by power wash, followed by car wash,
jacked car up, power washed underneath............. nothing, not a drip anywhere
followed above tip and plastered under carpet with talc, cause i know its going to come back.
totally lost now

Hi mate have you completely lifted the carpets front and rear
There quite deep footwells as the guys have said either the door membrane or drains or it's running in the bulkhead as the drains blocked there I've actually only sorted this fault this week only noticed it because the car was steaming up for all the wrong reasons.
The bulkhead drain blocks with leaves etc
Hope this helps let us know how you get on

Bulkhead is clear.
front carpet lifted and bone dry.
Never took the door card off as i assumed if water was draining from the drain holes at the bottom of the door, then it couldnt be coming in from there.

i`ll have another go tomorrow but sure ive covered everything.
cheers again chaps

Do a search at your cousin website 'LS1GTO.com'.
There is a ton on information on this subject. Has to do with clogged drainage holes that are hidden by the rocker panel decorative extension panels. The actual rocker panels have dirt collected inside. There is a method to fix it right, so rather than just reading my post and taking your car apart, first go to the suggested website.

The water causes more than mold. It can short out the airbag computer which is located [in the GTO] under the center console, as well as messing up the belt tensioners. These things would throw a fault code.

I didn't know that yours is 4-door, but who knows, the floor pans might be the same. I say this because you have spent hours on this with no results. Easy enough to remove the plastic rocker trim.

Happy New Year.

Had this with my first r8, Picadors said there was nothing to be found, so went to pick it up from them after a heavy thunderstorm and surprise surprise the rear passenger footwell was soaking again so after they ate a bit of humble pie they traced it to a seal behind the mirror.............smile
