Hi all, I bought my OH a Dodo Juice DAS -6 polisher for Christmas as I thought it would help him, as he loves cleaning our cars.

Now having a few doubts, are these suitable for an enthusiastic amateur? Or is our paintwork going to end up destroyed ?

He can't wait to try it but luckily weather has been against him so far, but it's only a matter of time.

Have I screwed up or with care are these ok?

Thanks

Oh and Happy New Year to all PH'ers.

Di

Hi Di

He should be safe with DA6 just make sure the paint is free from dirt and rubbish before he starts.
Rotary polishers are the ones where we amateurs can burn through the paint in short order if not careful.

If he is just going to use it for applying protection products rather than paint correction then he won't go wrong.
If he is going to attempt any paint correction then its always going to be best to start off with the lightest cut compound and pad and work upward from there.

Happy New Year to you.

As said above using a DA is very safe.

Get him to watch the Junkman video's on you tube.

Thanks, he's out at present but they are great video's, if a little long. Will get him to view.

I've not watched the Junkman vids, so this might already be on them, but with a marker, draw a line on the backing plate.

This way he will be able to see if too much pressure is being applied (the line stops) or too little (the line spins to fast).

You can correct with the DA, even using foam pads (rather than the MF pads), just takes longer.

thumbup That is how I first learnt what to do. Start with finishing pad and finishing polish and work up from there. Detailing world forum under polishing has some useful tuition on DA & rotary polishes and pads.
