Nice watch, congratulations.

But for me that watch sums up everything pointless about modern sports watches: Vastly unnecessary pressure rating, bezel digits that would be difficult to read at the bottom of a deep paddling pool, ditto the hands and markers, fragile bezel, easily damaged finish.

It defines "desk diver".

That is not to diminish its niceness as a watch, but it encapsulates all the folly of modern dive watches in one place.
Thank You, its alright at depth but no one I know who dives does so with a 'diver' its all computers now on the wrist, the essense of the dive watch is now in its ability to withstand pressure and know that you have a substantially engineered piece even if its not for the purpose intended. Lets face it the Chronograph of any variety from Daytona to Tag Heuer is only ever going to time an egg but we love a good toy us boys
Speaking of which, what's this on a strap that would be ruined if it got too wet? :-)

Compliments on the coke GMT, IMHO the best Rolex. Would like to see a coke sub though.

Very nice, I did mine this summer too, 10 years on the original bracelet was taking it's toll

I can recommend the hirsch straps from watchobsession

Talk of DSSDs is a bit like talking about RWD vs FWD on PH but I'm really happy with this now! (Nope, it won't even be going in the shower, I can't even swim and I couldn't care less)

Mad dogs and Englishmen. Bit after midday.
Rather hot at New Jersey SCCA event last Sunday.
Seiko Automatic.
Needs better strap. And the date adjusted.

+1 wink

Get it on a rubber strap though, Don - suits it more!

As for 'divers' watches... Who the hell can use the DSSD to it's limits or ANYWHERE close to them???

One assumes that everyone buys them for the engineering (or, say it quietly, because it's the 'biggest' Rolex)...

Crack on, Don - Crack on!

I'd imagine the number of people who buy a DSSD specifically to dive in is so small as to be virtually zero! (or any other 'premium' brand diver, tbh).

Unlike, say, the number of astronauts amongst us...?

Exactly, any 'specialist' watch is almost certainly bought for the looks, although if I ever go into space, you can bet I'll wear my Speedmaster biggrin

Although, the Speedmaster was a design adopted for space flight, rather than a watch designed specifically for it, I believe, unlike "Diver's watches" (and diving, rather than Space Flight, for the pedants smile )

If the watch manufacturers only sold their 'specialist' watches to the people who used them for their specific purposes I don't think they would be selling many watches. Most watches are marketed as being able to be used in certain environments mainly for marketing and also, as mentioned to showcase the engineering that has gone into the watch. I don't go diving, pilot planes or race cars but buy sports watches because of the engineering and to an extent for the look of the watch

I agree, although in my own defence can site a 50% success rate in selling Offshore professional field engineer chronographs to field engineers, (and only a 5% rate in them sending them back for repairs after breaking them)
