Been spending some time doing some research, I have come to a conclusion ,We do not own our vehicles we are only the "registered keeper" ,this is why the system can remove and even crush it if they feel like it .

If we owned it they would not be able to have it taken off us .

I have a receipt for the money I paid to purchase my car. What does that make me in relation to it?

In the OP's opinion it would seem registered keeper? The difficulty I see is that the DVLA warn every motorist that being the registered keeper on the V5 does not offer proof of ownership. I think cars are chattels therefore can be bought and sold. To my mind therefore cars can be owned as such.

You might legally own a kitchen knife, a gun, a baseball bat etc., but these can be removed from you if you break the law.

Same here. I think the OP's research is flawed.

I think a car has both a registered keeper and an owner.
They are normally the same person, but can be different.

There needs to be a distinction for some laws, but for most day to day discussions the RK is the owner and the owners is the RK.

Trying to argue that a car is not owned is either a mistake or a troll.

Can you tell us the extent of your research? If you've spent some time doing it, I assume it's fairly comprehensive?

Spend some more time and get it right! Or, take it from the less bewildered that you own your car if you, er, own it, and some HP company doesn't. In some circumstances a car can be taken away, because the law says so, but that does not mean it was never yours.

If trolling. I say about 4/10.

Where did you undertake this research?

You may "own" a vehicle. You may buy it and sell it.

The Registered Keeper however may be a different person i.e. the person to whom the DVLA will come for their tax may not be the person who has lawful title (i.e. ownership) of the vehicle.

The fact you can't tell would make it at least a 7

I'm quietly confident that I read words to that effect on the front of a V5C recently scratchchin .

Didn;t someone once say that
"I am not the owner of a V12 Ferrari, I am merely the custodian, whose sole purpose is to throw money at it until it is passed to the next custodian"

I own 3 cars, and am the registered keeper on only 1. Wifey claims to own 2 cars and thinks that because her name is on the V5 she is the owner. I can show her the receipts in my name and the transactions where the money came out of MY account.

Because I've never had a car on HP, never had a company car, and never borrowed a car off a mate, I've never been the registered keeper, but not the owner.

Who me ?

Years ago ( possibly decades) there was a spoof mathematical proof that the square root of 1 was only +1. It ignored the fact that -1 * -1 =1. I'd suggest that the OP is posting from this position ,and his research has missed the other options .

The Government is a corporation so I must me under contract ,its to late to opt out because I was to young at the time to make the decision , when my parents signed me over to the state .. I am owned by the Crown ,it states that on the birth certificate.

If I don`t except the contract I`ve opted out .
