One of the all time greats died this morning aged 71. Probably one of the best players at wc 66.

In the 60s, the two greatest players in the world were Pelé and Eusebio.

Wonderful player, shook his hand at the end of the game on the pitch (even though we lost the semi final) at WHL in 1962, pitch invasion etc etc, in fact during the last 5min we were standing on the running track at the corner near the tunnel.

My dad watched him play for Portugal in 1966 at Goodison, I can remember him talking about him, think he was known as 'the black pearl', old man reckoned he'd never seen anyone quite like him, almost as good as Alex Young, 'the golden vision!'

I wanted to name our last cat Eusebio - the missus wasn't having any of it.

frown Great Shame. Eveyone that met him was always amazed at how kind and humble he was.

They don't make them how they use too.

A great player and a great loss.

This really is a thread for 'Old Farts' who remember the 1966 World Cup. grumpy

I will always argue that had Pele not been around in the same era we would be saying he was the greatest to ever grace the field.
wijit junior (Abarth Boy) was fortunate enough to meet him;
