Haven't found any better clippers than my Remington HC363, superseded by HC365, less powerful and has the uncanny knack of destroying 3mm combs, four in two years. No more goodwill gestures from Remington Customer Services, as I found out yesterday biggrin

Unfortunately these clippers seemingly, appear to be the only half decent cordless clippers around. I'm guessing their lithium-ion models aren't as good?!

Any Remington users found anything better than what I currently put up with?

Ha! Same problem as me! I now have the comb-eating HC365 too.

I can't find anything better, though.

Usually use a very cheap set of Wahl corded ones and they're great - do Wahl do cordless if you need that?

I had a Remington set for about ten years, thought they were good but required constant oiling and cleaning.

I left them at my mum's house after a visit there so bought a cheapy set of Babyliss clippers. They've worked flawlessly for the last eight years, I don't know if my Remington clippers still exist, the Babyliss cost less than half as much and have outperformed the Remington in every way.

Do the Wahls come with a 5mm comb? Remington comes with a 3mm, then a 7mm.

Interesting, as I was queued up at debenhams checkout the other day and amongst other products they had sets of Babyliss clippers for £20.

I'm guessing it was these.

Do you know the 3 shortest cutting comb lengths PH?

I have these ones: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4...

but the site only lists the "grades" 1-8 rather than the measurements in mm, not sure how they translate.

Mine are the E770XDE, a cursory Google doesn't seem to have them on sale any longer.

Different people might have different experiences, but for my money, my old Remington clippers have been shown up by my Babyliss ones, I know what I'll be getting when these die.

I've used Wahl clippers for years, I think my last ones were the tenner set from Argos and they've been great, had em a few years now, the set before that one was Wahl, only had to buy new ones because the old ones got lost. They definitely have a #4 comb because that's what I use, not sure about a #5. I got this set for Christmas but not used them yet.

I also got a cordless Wahl trimmer set, been impressed with it so far.

Got the Remington HC5950 Touch Control but in all honesty it's too complicated for its own good.

I have a cheap set, too. No problems as you've described. Used once a fortnight for the last 5 years (or whenever everyone convinced me clippers were the way forward). Never oiled.

Before my Remington's I too owned a set of yellow corded Wahls. Remembered with fondness. smile

I've just bothered Wahl CS and their tech is kindly going to call back with a full diagnostics on their comb lengths. biggrin

I can't be bothered with buying and then returning something!

OP you can buy new combs for clippers ? I presume you can for yours.

Wahl are a good make worth looking into if you want a new set. My Mrs has had hers years without any issues.

Think I'm going to go back to a Wahl corded set. 3m cord means I can still hang my head over the bath

I wonder whether the Super Taper is worth near double the Chrome Pro?

I would always go Wahl, which version is up to you, but there is a reason 995 of barbers and hairdressers use Wahl

Anyone got a set that does a really close cut with no guide on it?

My current set of Philips doesn't seem to cut that close, so I end up cutting my hair every 4 days.

Has a Babyliss model that I kept until blunt which were great, but no longer manufactured. (Saw them on clearance sale in Tesco for a fiver a set a couple of years ago, should have bought enough to last me a lifetime.curse)

If you break you clippers following this advice dont blame me (and maybe youtube first) but my best mate is a black guy who got fed up of having to do the same. On most sets of clippers there are 2 screws on the front plate, you can use these to adjust the closeness of the cut, but you dont want to go too far (we are talking mm adjustments) he cuts my hair for me sometimes and its the closest cut I have ever had

I got a set of Babyliss iStubble or whatever they're called a few years ago, still going strong. I wanted something to trim my beard with as well as my head and preferably all to the same length, using traditional clippers just made a mess of my face so these are perfect. Still hold enough charge for a full head trim or two and cut with no difficulty at all.

If you're like me and you like the Duncan Goodhew look, then invest in a set of Wahl professional balding hair clippers.

Daft name, but it's the shortest you can go without wet shaving.

Keep them well oiled after each use and they'll last years.
