Polo 6N2 GTi Vs Fiat 500

I had a very slight prang In December - I hit someone from behind when they pulled out from a roundabout then braked suddenly.

Decided to not go through insurance company as the only damage to my vehicle was a cracked number plate and her car had a crazed chrome bumper protector strip.

All fine and dandy, she gets a quote from Fiat to repair and it comes back £197 odd. This is crazy as its a push fit bumper strip so I order the new part from Fiat and tell het I will repair it for her (its a 10 minute job - pop off the old one and clip in the new one and she is happy with this).

Roll on to today, I have a text message from my insurance company stating that "someone" has made a claim on my policy. Contact 500 owner and she says that she registered the prang with her insurance company in December but told them to take no action..... it was purely so it was on file.

Questions:
1). Her insurance company has registered the accident with my insurance company so will this now be on my "file" and I have to tell potential insurers about this for the next 5 years? Even if no claim is made.

2). If the above case is true, I may as well let the insurance company sort it out, if I do this do I have to pay my voluntary excess even if I am not making a claim (I have already replaced the number plate).

1) yes.
2) given that you've settled the claim and she is happy, you have nothing more to pay. Even if you had gone thru insurance the excess wouldn't apply, as the excess is for your own damage, not tp damage.

Ah okay nice one. I am just concerned that if it gets a bit sly and she pushes it through the insuers that i will be stung with the cost of the new part and the excess on top, good to know I wont have that one to contemplate with!

Tempted to cancel the part on order and put it through the insurers now as I have the cost premium added of having the "incident" on my file now for the next five years as well as the part that was £90.00!!

:/ pah! women!

If it ends up as a claim then you will also lose 2 year NCD as well.

It would seem the better option would be for you to carry otu the repair as planned and save your NCD.
