Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 XS Limited 2005 Headlamp bulb issue.

Hi guys, thanks for your help a while back with tyre recommendations. A quick question for anyone owning the last of the Mark 2 Grand Cherokee Jeeps, do you have problems getting low beam bulbs for it? Having taken the bust bulb into Halfords, they say they definatly do not have bulbs with that connection on it they tried to supply an L shaped one which is wrong. The Jeep main dealer also provided one that looked similar but is slightly different in the electrical fitment bit so will not fit either. Seems odd to have much bother with a simple low beam bulb, can any kind soul advise where they get their low beam replacement bulbs from? Much apprecated. Ben.

I used to work for a Jeep dealer and wondered why people came to us for light bulbs. Then I saw the fittings on one and realised that they aren't anything like normal ones.

It's been 7 years since I left so I can't remember what the G Cherokee ones are like but the dealer should be able to sort you out. Halfords won't!

The bulb they tried to give you is the 9006, you need the 9006XS which has the straight connector rather than the angled one.

If you google this you will find plenty of suppliers.

Halfords did get them for me, but we had to physically look on the shelf to match up not go through the book for reference.

Halfords did used to do them - as you say though the book is incorrect.
I had a look myself the other day, both in-store and on-line, the 9006XS were unavailable in either place so they may have stopped stocking them due to lack of demand.

It's also worth noting that the book is also wrong with respect to the tail and brake bulb references, they do sell them but under a different pack code to that in the book.
I'll have a look later as I may still have the card insert from the last ones I bought and will put the pack code up for future reference.

Maybe try JeepeyMart, they sell a few Jeep bits.

We had to buy a rear bulb for our Cherokee from Amazon as I couldn't find sellers anywhere else

Have a load of these bulbs lying around, bought a job lot off ebay a few years back....

cheers anyway lads, all sorted, tried to local Jeep Dealer in Swindon. Called on 5.30pm on a Friday night gave them the part number that Ledaig said. They said they would have them by 9am on Sat morning. And they did!! Job done! Well impressed.

Yup the Halfords book is wrong. I found this with the rear lights. It specifies the normal bayonet one but in fat it is the 180 with the blade type fitting. WJs were built in Austria so maybe it is something to do with that.

Really? I never knew that, I guessed they were built and shipped from the US. You learn something new every day!

Which is also why the diesels run the 2.7 Merc 5 cylinder lump due to the ties up with Chrysler owning both Jeep and Mercedes.




ETA - WJ Jeeps shows that the 'blade' style are standard supply for both the US and EU models.
