I was looking at a DC5 integra, but I opted against that. I've started to look at Impreza's and wanting an experience of a Turbo.

My budget is £7000, excluding Insurance. I looked at some WRX's and noticed you can get a decent blob eye for £4500ish and a decent hawkeye for £5500ish. I then decided to look at STi's. You can pick a decent one up for £6500-£7000. Here is my dilemma. My insurance quote is merely £30 difference between the two even though im only 23. (£980 for the WRX and £1010 for the STi.

Would you A) Purchase a WRX and modify it with say, a stage 1 package and brake or B) Just buy an STi outright?

I know insurance will be more on the WRX declaring modifications, so surely it would make sense to merely buy an STi right? I quite like the look of the Blobeye STI, and Im very tempted by its practicality and performance.

Speaking as a WRX owner, buy an sti.

Almost everything on the sti is upgraded. Parts which you'd want to be swapping onto a WRX anyway. Stronger gearbox, bigger brakes, better suspension, bigger turbo, etc.

I'd ignore the hawkeye and look for a stock(ish) blob, with ppp if it's in budget. The 2.5l has chocolate pistons that would need upgraded to forged ones for peace of mind.

No brainer. STI all the way. WRX is still a good car (many say more suitable for everyday driving) but the brembo brakes and 6 speed box not to mention more power made it an easy decision for me. Mine is standard apart from ppp and still puts a smile on my face after 3 years of ownership and 10 years of impreza ownership! Looking to replace it soonish but only thing I can think to replace it with and to tick all the boxes is another sti.

Blobeye STI owner here. Had it 8 months which is longer than I usually keep a car.

It's my only car and I can't think of anything to replace it with, honestly. 4 doors, big boot, reasonably priced parts and very easy to service yourself, acceleration through 0-60 like nothing else I've ever sat in (330-340), handles like... Well a rally car. Incredible for the money.

£7k should get you a very nice one. Just be aware of the timing belt changes and evidence of regular servicing.
