Repainting 1:43 Models?

I have a small collection of 1:43 models, some of which are perfect, some have had work done and a small group of 4-5 more I'm looking to 'colour change'.
Before now I knew of a person who had repainted a few for me to a very high standard but he's no longer keen to undertake the task but I'm still looking to get the last few sorted out.
Is there anybody out there who for some charge can do a decent job of a colour change? I'm not pedantic about the absolute perfect work, but obviously needs some experience of doing this to be worth it! Does anybody do restoration themselves or have a contact who does who'd be interested? I have no idea of the scale of work involved per model but I gather it depends a bit on how easily they come apart etc.
Any ideas are appreciated; either people who may be able to help or point me in the right direction.

I've modified a couple 1/43 cars but mainly do 1/18. I've 3 1/43, 1 1/32 & 2 1/18 cars on the go at the moment.

There are a total list of 8 that in my dream world I'd be able to change, but obviously even just picking off one or two is something. Here's the perfect scenario:
I'm a total beginner to knowing what's involved, presumably paints need to be matched somehow off photos or can you get actual touch-up? I guess different makes of models are easier to safely dismantle?
Obviously I expect to pay, but there's of course a balance where it's not worth doing, hit me!

I just use spray paint from Halfords but some use airbrush's. Check out the work that telnshell171 on eBay does using professional car paint & equipment.
Some brands are easier to take apart than others.
Taking a car apart, painting & re-assembling it isn't hard. Just take your time. Start off with a cheap car as a practice to see how you get on.
Currently have 1 x 1/18, 1 x 1/32 & 2 x 1/43 cars on the go and making decals for another 2 x 1/18 cars.

Drill out the rivets and dismantle, paint stripper, ultrasound cleaning tank and then rattle can undercoat and top coat with some detailing using those little Humbrol tins. Then reassemble.
No airbrush in sight, crude and far from perfect but sat in a restored cabinet salvaged from an auction sale it shows you can do something half reasonable with basic equipment.

The only guy I can find to repaint my 1:43 Toyota Aygo to the spec of my car is in Germany. It would cost me £30 to ship it there and back plus the fee for him to paint it.
My dad has asked a guy who makes decals and mugs for him and he is asking a friend if he does it. If he doesn't does anyone here do or know of someone who would repaint the car to the spec of my actual car. Would pay obviously for someone to do it.

In the good old days of toy fairs, going back 10-15 years there used to be a guy from Sheffield, Keith...?) who painted lots of my Lotus die cast collection. I expect he'll have stopped now, might be worth looking in the ads section of one of the specialist Model Collecting magazines for contacts.

what did he charge?im capable of doing them but materials plus a few hours work soon makes it not worth doing , id be wanting £75-85 plus the paint code off the real car

There in lies the issue. The cost (that I felt was commensurate with the time and effort I put into it) just wasn't what people were prepared to pay ("I'm not paying that, max I'll go to is 20 quid, m8") so eventually it made it a tedious affair which ripped any enjoyment out of the process.

From memory it was around £25 per car which I thought was reasonable. Full strip and repaint and extra for windscreens, tyres and stickers where needed. A guy from Immingham called Ian was very good too but again I’ve lost contact.im capable of doing them but materials plus a few hours work soon makes it not worth doing , id be wanting £75-85 plus the paint code off the real car

Same problem I had when building kits. If I charged properly for the time, nobody would pay it. If I charged what they wanted me to, I was getting about £2 an hour.Gassing Station | Scale Models | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
