UPDATE ON PAGE 3

As requested, I'll post all images in here from my "Need some new 4 wheeled subjects (Photography)" thread.

Just a quick thank you to everyone for the overwhelming response the thread got.

First up is 8bit's Jaguar XKR, taken down at Cove Harbour earlier in the week.

Thanks for comments David & Greg.

Niall, not a problem, thanks for letting me get a few pics of the Jag. The darker colour proved a pest but I've learned a lot from it.

Thanks Paul, heres hoping the weather is kind next week. I'll check forecast later in the week.

Excellent looking pictures and I am a bit surprised to how different they look. I spent about 3-4 hours last year getting some pictures taken in and around Falkirk of my RS...... recon it would look pretty good in the dark??

Sko77y - amazing looking pictures from a very talented photographer. Have read your other post and I have a lightning silver Aston Martin V8 Vantage that may be a good subject? Also live in Aberdeen.

Hi kmm,

Thanks for commenting, the idea is to try and eliminate all reflections bar the ones you want. Car looks ideal for lightpainting (have yet to try red) got a soft spot for Audi estates as well. I'll add you to the list and respond in the other thread.

Also if thats your Land Rover in your profile I'd be keen to try an almost identical shot of it too.

Thanks
Scott

Thanks for commenting bigeckfaetherigs, I'm certainly no expert but the chance to shoot some of the fantastic machinery on here is giving me back motivation to pick up the camera and learn more. You're the first Aston to come forward, so I'll happily add you to the list.

I'm not quite sure when I'll be able to take photos, its heading towards 30+ members, but I will be in touch when I can organise something.

Thanks again,
Scott

(posted this a second ago and it failed!)

Great shots mate, a very high standard indeed! You will need to come and show me how to get the output like that - superb.

I've just bought a diffuser for my maglite so I'm hoping to follow suit shortly.

ps don't trust Kenny, he likes to scare horses!!

Hi Martyboy84,

I'm no expert by far, but as long as you get your exposures right, light the correct parts and watch your reflections there's not much else I can pass on - just make sure you do enough passes so you have plenty to work with in post production. I don't think my technique is up to scratch so I'm in the middle of trying some new things.

Hope some of that helps you get started, just experiment, if you find an awesome technique though be sure to let me know!

I'll make sure there's no horses about haha!

So you do you blend a few photos in post?

I think I'll need to start doing several photos with several passes. I have only tried a few times, but I could never get it looking right, I just need to get out and practice, my own cars white which makes it a bit of an arseache showing the curves etc and not overexposing.. Good practice for white cars mind you lol.

What sort of set up to you have? Low ISO, low aparture, 15+ seconds shutter? Such clean photos you have mate, very jealous.

Edit to add this - number 5 is my favourite (not that your asking for any feedback!!) it looks like its out a magazine.

I know some do it all in one exposure, but for me there isn't enough control over where the lights going. You have to composite a few different exposures into one image. I've yet to try white, but black is a pain as its only reflections you can work with, no base colour. I think whites good for making it "pop".

Low Iso, Aperture to get the whole car in focus, shutter speed to suit what you're after.

Only other thing is try a few passes, angles, distances and you'll learn a lot.

No I'll take feedback on them all if folk have an opinion, good way to see things you haven't noticed.

Cheers for the feedback

Scott

Martyboy84 can take the credit for my pictures. I said to the wife, "be back in an hour or so" Over 3 hours later I manage to get Marty to stop taking pictures. I thought it was only you I scared on the way back to mine. I think your comment was something like "fk, your brakes are good, thankfully"

Thanks for the offer Roy, I'll add you to the list. It'd be good to try out a white car and see how I cope.

I should stipulate in my T&C's that a passenger ride along is a must haha! I aimed to get 8bits shots done in 2 hours, but it took 3.5hrs and that was at the one location for 6 shots.

Jamie's TVR, inlcuding travelling was about the same, I'll need to plan shoots beforehand so they take less time.

All a learning experience!
