I was looking back at some old photos and came across this of my old 1992 Metro GTi 16v MPI. Not a ground breaking car by any standard but my 1st taste of performance, considering it was a Metro I found it pretty robust doing over 40k in 3yrs...and I was not easy on the mechanicals.

Thing is here are only 63 left registered on the road (according to how many left), its a real shame and I would buy one to keep....if I had the space and any were actually for sale!

It got me thinking what sort of cars of the last 20yrs are going to to he scrap heap in the sky never to be seen on the road, will the humble Metro make classic status, or is it likely to die a death with no-one there at the funeral? How many other cars that you have have loved will suffer the same fate?

The Fiesta RS Turbo. It was rare as hens teeth when i was searching for one about 15 years ago but now there are only 211 registered in the UK and half of them will be rusty or badly modified.

I never did end up finding a good one and went for a mint XR2i in the end.

Just out of curiosity I was searching for a 405 Mi16 the other day and was surprised how few are for sale.
Also Cinquecento Sportings are getting rarer by the day.

This. Amazing how they have dropped off. When I was 5 or 6 they were everywhere.

I had a series 2 Escort RS Turbo some time ago, I don't remember it fondly as it was always going wrong. I actually think it will be the series 1 XR2i and RS which will be the real classics in years to come. I can't remember the last time I actually saw any of these cars on the road though.

Almost any late 80s into 90s Fiat, haven't seen an Uno, original Panda or MK1 Punto for years, there used to be loads.

My mother had a Ford Probe when they first came out. I used to love the. Pop up headlights. I can't for the life of me remember when I last saw one on the road. I think M928 UEJ has gone to the great scrap yard in the sky.

Mk 2 Lagunas seem to have become rare - I actually quite like the estate (tourer?) but I just never see them around anymore. Has their terrible reputation caused a premature demise or is it just my lack of observation?

The infamous Carlton that they gave away as a prize, which ended up being written off not long afterwards by any chance ???
