Is a 650i much more coin? My understanding is that the 650i gets a later revision of all the iDrive nonsense that is both more user-friendly and less prone to disappearing up its own starfish.

yeah unfortunately it is enough extra to not really be viable. for the first time in my life i need to be strict with the budget ive set eventhough the the 650i to me (coming from an E60 M5) would be alot more desirable.

tell me though, not the first time ive read this. are the 645i's prone to major engine issues?

It seems that, as others have mentioned, there's a coolant pipe that is a known weakness, and a £2k fix, and they can suffer from oil leaks which again aren't cheap fixes.

I don't know that I'm brave enough personally, and I buy any old rubbish.

Be very interested to hear your impressions, the trigger finger is itchy, a manual 645 is top of the (long) wanted list at the mo and there seems to be very little to read about them on t'internet.

Very tempted by this. Breaks all of my self-imposed rules of car purchasing, but..
