It is indeed an E12 B7S. One of two in the country, apparently, and utterly gorgeous (for an Alpina).

In other news, Porsche Hatfield have finally returned my call about not having received any warranty documentation since renewing. The answer - somewhat impressively - is that they've changed system, there are no records on the new system of having renewed and could they have the car back to carry out the 111-point check again. Slick.
